Looking to friends for help

Donation protected
Like anyone we hate to ask for help.
But unfortunately our current circumstances have led us to put out a call to our friends and family In hopes we can get assistance to in paying toward JC’s medical expenses and funeral costs.

On Friday night my partner received the phone call every parent dreads. His 19 yr old Son, Jabbar Jnr, known as JC was being rushed to surgery and is in critical condition.

JC was shot multiple times after he knocked on the door of the wrong house!! JC thought he was at his Brothers new home in Opelika but had mistakenly gone to the neighbours house. The neighbour, scared after being burglarised some weeks before, opened the door and fired at JC 3 times, hitting him in the stomach and twice in the chest. He was on the phone to his brother at the time, telling him he had finally arrived and was at his door.

JC underwent emergency surgery at Alabama East Medical Centre where they removed his spleen and repaired his lung. The Surgeons reported he had a good chance of pulling through however they were concerned that he may be unable to walk again after the incident.

Whilst running further tests it was discovered that one of the bullets had fragmented and obliterated JC’s brain stem and he was pronounced brain dead on Saturday morning.

JC was killed because he knocked on the wrong door at the wrong time.

To make this tragic situation worse Jabbar, living with me in Australia, was a 26 hr flight away from his son in Alabama.

We spent the weekend that Jabbar should have been with his family and friends trying to organise a Visa and flights to enable Jabbar to leave the Country. As he has applied for citizenship in Australia he required permission from Australian Immigration I order to fly out to be with his son.

The Hospital agreed to keep JC on life support for as long as they could so as Jabbar would have the opportunity to say his goodbyes. Unfortunately before he boarded his flight he was informed that if The family wanted to donate JC’s organs the operation would need to take place within the next 12 hours, whilst Jabbar was still in the air. Jabbar and JC’s Mother made the choice to elect to have other people benefit from their tragedy and JC became an organ donor.

If you know me well you know asking for help is something I rarely do and I put a lot of thought in before I decided to make this page. I also feel like at such a sad and tragic time in our lives I hate that money is even a consideration. But the honest truth is JC was 19, he didn’t have insurance and America is a really expensive place require medical attention. After the costs organising Jabbar to return home, medical expenses and funeral expenses we are going to come up short and we are turning to our friends and family for help.

JC will be buried in Eutaw Alabama on Friday the 23rd of February. All associates costs need to be met before a burial can be completed. If anyone could spare anything to help us at this time we would be more than grateful.

In this time we want to thank anyone who has offered their help, sent their condolences and kind words, work colleagues who covered our shifts at work, friends who gave us a shoulder to cry on, or just sat with us whilst we stared into space. It means more to us then you know.
