Lest We Forget
Donation protected
William Patrick McGrath lost on HMS Queen Mary, 31 May 1916, at the Battle of Jutland. In a single day, he and 19 other men from Queenstown (now Cobh) died in the greatest sea battle of World War 1.
These men made the ultimate sacrifice for their country yet are all but forgotten in their home town. Eithne O' Connor was inspired by the memory of her great uncle (pictured here) and formed the Jutland Memorial Society to remember them.
Your donation will be used to build a permanent memorial in the grounds of the Old Admiralty House, Cobh, fund a book of sponsors and host an exhibition detailing their lives. Their sacrifice should not be forgotten, please help us to remember their bravery.
