Amici di Numero Cromatico,
ci troviamo a scrivervi in un momento molto difficile per la nostra organizzazione.
Il virus ci ha catapultato in un mondo nuovo, in profonda crisi e in cui si stanno scrivendo nuove regole. Si tratta di una situazione senza precedenti, che sta mettendo tutti in grandi difficoltà economiche anche nella semplice sussistenza quotidiana.
In questo scenario è inutile nascondere che la quarantena e i duri mesi che verranno minano la nostra sopravvivenza. Siamo in difficoltà, per superare questo periodo ed arrivare all’autunno abbiamo bisogno di un sostegno da parte di tutti.
In questi anni non siamo mai entrati nel merito delle politiche culturali dei governi che si sono susseguiti, delle scelte ministeriali, dei bandi che non prevedono la ricerca scientifica in ambito artistico; abbiamo portato avanti un’idea di arte e di ricerca artistica innovativa e senza precedenti. Lo abbiamo fatto a testa alta, grazie alle economie provenienti dalle nostre tasche e dalla lungimiranza di alcuni di voi, evitando di lamentarci del completo disinteresse di istituzioni pubbliche e private.
Nonostante le associazioni culturali, gli spazi indipendenti e gli enti del terzo settore, siano la spina dorsale delle idee, delle iniziative, delle teorie e dell’aggregazione sociale nel nostro paese, in questo difficile momento non è stato previsto alcun incentivo, alcun aiuto e nessun piano per la sopravvivenza nei prossimi mesi.
Intanto le spese incombono, alle istituzioni pare non sia necessaria la nostra attività, ma speriamo che lo sia per molti di voi.
Numero Cromatico è un laboratorio, un centro di ricerca, ma è anche uno spazio di socialità: sin dalla nostra fondazione abbiamo prodotto mostre, laboratori, conferenze, masterclass, spettacoli, performance e workshop.
Abbiamo proposto una nuova possibilità di ricerca e di dibattito interdisciplinare tra arte e neuroscienze, avvicinando questi mondi, con lo scopo di far comprendere le potenzialità di questa unione.
Abbiamo inoltre cercato di creare un dibattito sugli scopi e sulle teorie dell’arte a Roma e non solo, producendo mostre e progetti per ragionare e costruire insieme un futuro diverso.
Nei mesi che verranno non sarà possibile proporre le nostre attività nel modo in cui abbiamo sempre fatto e che consenta di sostenerci anche economicamente. Senza un supporto economico lo scenario che si configura davanti ai nostri occhi è quello della chiusura.
Ma noi non ci stiamo! Non siamo mai stati invadenti, non abbiamo mai chiesto contributi di questo tipo e molte delle nostre iniziative sono state spesso gratuite.
In 9 anni di attività abbiamo vissuto del vostro calore, della vostra presenza, delle vostre domande, ma anche delle vostre donazioni. Aiutateci a far sopravvivere uno spazio come il nostro, unico a livello nazionale, vincitore proprio quest’anno di i10 spazi indipendenti ad Art Verona, come miglior spazio indipendente in Italia nel 2019.
Abbiamo presentato, proprio a Verona, il primo esperimento di neuroestetica in una fiera d’arte italiana, coinvolgendo il pubblico in un’esperienza unica. Ma purtroppo la situazione economica che si sta prospettando potrebbe rimettere in discussione anni di duro lavoro.
Ci mancate e stiamo cercando di immaginare nuovi scenari di socialità per i prossimi mesi, ma è chiaro che senza il vostro sostegno non ce la faremo.
Abbiamo calcolato che per arrivare al prossimo novembre abbiamo bisogno almeno di 10.000 euro, cifra che ci aiuterebbe a pagare affitto, utenze e spese di gestione.
Vi chiediamo di contribuire con quello che potete, ma anche di fare girare la notizia tra i vostri contatti.
Noi crediamo nella comunità che si è creata intorno a Numero Cromatico e speriamo di superare questo momento difficile grazie alla rete di amici, soci, sostenitori e simpatizzanti che in questi anni, da vicino e da lontano, hanno vissuto con noi questa bella esperienza.

Dear Friends of Numero Cromatico,
We find ourselves here, writing to you, in a very difficult moment for our organization.
The virus threw us into a whole new world, one of great crisis and where new rules are being written. This unforeseeable situation is causing serious economic problems, even when it comes to dealing with simple everyday needs. In this scenario, there is no point in hiding the fact that both the quarantine and the tough months ahead of us are mining our survival.
We are in a difficult position and in order to overcome it and make it to the next Fall we need your help.
During these years, we never commented on the cultural politics set by various governments and parties, or on the choice to exclude scientific research in the art field from all funds.
Still, we tried to bring forward an idea of art and artistic research that was innovative and unprecedented. We did so with our heads held high, through self-funding and thanks to the far-sightedness of some of you, trying our best not to complain about the total lack of interest shown by public and private institutions.
Even though cultural associations, independent organisations and third-sector institutions are the backbone of all the initiatives, ideas, theories and aggregation of our country, no funds or help-scheme has been provided for the survival during these months and the ones to follow.
Meanwhile, the expenses keep looming over us and, since the Institutions do not act as if they need our activity, perhaps some of you do.
Numero Cromatico is a studio and a research centre, but also a place where people get together: since day one, we organised exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, shows and performances.
We offered new ways of researching and discussing about art and neuroscience in an interdisciplinary way, pulling these two worlds closer together, with the aim of highlighting the potentials of this relationship. On top of that, we tried to establish a debate on the aims and theories of art in Rome as well as elsewhere, by organizing exhibitions and events in which we tried to think and build a different future together.
In the months to come, we won’t be able to organise our activities in a way that will allow us to economically support ourselves. The scenario that appears before our eyes is that of closing down our doors.
But we won’t let this happen! We have never been intrusive, we never asked for this kind of contributions and many of our activities have often been free for the public to take part in.
In these past 9 years, we lived on your presence, support, questions, and donations too.
Help us keep our centre alive, one that in 2019 won the ArtVerona Prize for best independent organization In Italy.
In Verona, we presented the first-ever neuro-aesthetic experiment to take place in an Italian art fair, engaging with the public in a unique experience. This prize gave us a push to continue working with strength and passion, but unfortunately, the economic situation we are dealing with is about to question years and years of hard work.
We miss you and we are currently trying to imagine new ways to socially interact in the following months, but it is clear now that we won’t be able to do so without your help.
We estimated that, in order to get to the following November, we would need roughly 10.000 euros, just so we could pay rent, bills and other related expenses.
We kindly ask you to contribute and donate with what you can, and also to make this message circulate as much as possible.
We believe and trust the community that Numero Cromatico managed to build and we hope to overcome this difficult moment thanks to the great network of friends, partners, sustainers and supporters that during this year, close or far, lived with us this beautiful experience.
