Karen's Cancer Treatment Fund

I'm not often one to ask for sympathy or help, but I am writing this today on behalf of my mother, Karen Keller. This may come as a surprise to many of you, but my mother has suffered from myriad health issues for the majority of my life, the latest of which was a breast cancer diagnosis during the spring of 2016. Aside from a mastectomy/lymphectomy, she decided against the “standard” treatment of radiation and chemotherapy, unwilling and uninterested in adding to the pain she was already experiencing. My mom has had a very poor quality of life for many years, and I am the last person to ever question a decision she would make in regards to her health and her body.

Karen has always been a somewhat private person, more interested in offering support and a shoulder to cry on, attempting to never burden the people in her life with her own trauma. But this summer, she decided to start sharing her pain and her story with her friends and family, realizing that there is still so much to live for and is trying everything she can to extend her time.

Having witnessed far too many friends and family suffer from chemotherapy and radiation, she is choosing a more alternative path with some of the treatment that she is seeking. As you can imagine, said treatment is rarely covered by most insurance companies. Below is a brief but detailed description of my mother's past and current plan of action, written in her own words. She is reaching out to her friends and family for any support that they might be able to provide in helping to ease the financial burden of this treatment.

I understand that there are far too many sick and dying in this world. I understand that the burden of paying for health care for ourselves and our loved ones is far too real and an endless struggle. But if you find you are able to contribute to Karen's campaign, please know that you will be helping someone who has dedicated her life to serving and bettering the lives of those around her, often to her own detriment.

Thank you in advance to any of you that are able to give. And if you cannot afford a small contribution, please know that your time, attention, and energy can go just as far in helping to ease the pain of a truly wonderful woman.

Peace & Love,

Elliott

A NOTE FROM KAREN:

This is urgent if I am going to try and prolong my life for as long as possible. I announced that my lymphoma has returned after the mastectomy and lymphectomy in May of 2016 and currently I have several more malignant tumors. I am trying to go the natural and spiritual route and prolong my life. Not only am I fighting the cancer, I am struggling with immense pain 24/7 from my 3 failed back surgeries, IBS, Hiatal Hernia, GERD, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Mitral Valve Prolapse, and Sciatica in my sacrum and Left Buttock. I saw a Dr. Laura Sleggs of Naturopathy and she gave me a plan of care that will be costly due to needing IV Vitamin C Therapy, Supplements, Reiki, Infrared Sauna, physical therapy, and diet changes. The IV Therapy alone will cost me $1,750 plus gas, and that is traveling 4 hours, and doing 8 treatments. I may need to continue this for another 1 or more treatments, depending on how far advanced my cancer is. I am also seeking out Palliative Care for the CBD oil/cannabis oil to help with my appetite, my depression, and sleeping. I am currently withdrawing from Hydrocodone, on which I have maxed myself out. I have gone through the gamut of multiple opiates and pain killers, finding no relief. I was instructed by Dr. Laura to do the Infrared Sauna and the Reiki 3 times/week. I also will be having periodic blood work, oncology, gastro, and primary care app'ts which are becoming more frequent again. I have managed to bail myself out of debt 3 times now since 2004, (my 1st failed back surgery), and now I am reaching out to my friends and family for monetary and spiritual guidance. With the help of my fellow Hilton friends and family we were able to raise a total of $2,800 in 2013/2014 for the American Cancer and American Blood Cross Societies. I mention this as a form of justification for reaching out to whomever is reading this and willing to help me. Below are links detailing the various treatments that I am pursuing. Please consider giving what you can.
Fondly,
Karen Keller
