KERALA, on India's Southern West Coast, known as "God's Own Country" and a popular tourist destination that offers lush green landscapes and beautiful beaches is experiencing one of the worst disasters the state has ever faced. The state has received 37.5% excess rainfall in two and a half months and some towns have received 83.5% excess rainfall, an unusual statistic for Kerala thus flooding towns across the state. It has been called the worst floods that Kerala has ever faced since 1924.

Kerala has received 2091mm rainfall since the start of this monsoon season, when in context SE Queensland received 400mm of rainfall during 2010 floods!
The total lives lost stands at 357 as of today(19th August 2018),with at least 800,000 people displaced. They are taking shelter in more than 2,000 relief camps which including many of ours family members and friends as well. Casualties and death tolls continue to rise, as water levels are increasing due to heavy, non-stop rains causing landslides, breaking down bridges, damaging homes, schools, stores and airports across the state. Thirty  Four dams had to be opened to allow for water to flow through without the heavy rains breaking it down and causing further destruction.

Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinayari Vijayan has ordered for state and central government resources to work in union and has supported the operations well. Indian Government services (Navy, Military) and outside organisations (e.g. Red Cross India)have been using helicopters and boats to help thousands of stranded and helpless people. Unable to help themselves and due to lack of a pre- disaster management plan, locals from unaffected towns are assisting by providing camps with basic food, medicines, clothing and shelter all of which are soon running out. With the rains expected continue for the next few weeks, rescue teams are trying to speed operations and save as many lives they can; people are placed at camps set up by Red Cross India, universities and towns that are not affected.

It's a heartbreaking situation for all especially for us who are based outside of India, unable to be of help on the ground. The aim is to help the people in every and any possible way we can.

We, Napoleons Cricket Club have set up this GoFund Me page to raise funds for the people of Kerala, a home state for many of our players whose families and friends struggle to deal with this crisis. Homes and lives have been destroyed. Rebuilding their lives after this disaster is going to be a long and painful process both emotionally and financially. Donations made via this page will be transferred to the Kerala Chief Ministers Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). Donations are welcome from anywhere in the world; $1 goes a long way and we hope our initiative will help the people through this crisis.

Let's join together to help the people of Kerala rebuild their lives one step at a time. Please keep Kerala in your prayers.
