Faith Dog ProjectEstablished 2011

History

The Pet Prescription Team (PPT) founded The Faith Dog Project in memory of Brielle Murray and her dog Faith.  Brielle and Faith were members of the PPT and wholeheartedly represented what the PPT was all about, “Healing Hearts Through Pets.” In 2008, Brielle Murray was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) which is a cancerous tumor that develops in the body's soft tissues, usually the muscles. It can affect the head, neck, bladder, arms and legs. Cells from these tumors are often fast growing and can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. Brielle's tumor started within the ear canal. During the next three years she would undergo multiple surgeries, Radiation, Chemo treatments and a Stem Cell transplant. Sadly, Brielle passed away from us on February 18, 2011, but not before she saw her dream become a reality.

Objective

It was Brielle’s wish that children with cancer who were in the hospital and were visited by the PPT would receive stuffed dogs to keep them company after the PPT volunteers left. Through The Faith Project, “Faith Dogs” are given to the patients that the team members visit.  PPT began with the oncology patients at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles and hope to spread the project to all areas that they visit.

Goals

With each dog, we share Brielle's story and her inspiring words, "With Faith, All Things Are Possible." With each hug the dog receives, each tear it catches, and each moment of pain that it absorbs, Brielle's hand and Faith's paw will continue to imprint their prayers and love to those who need it most.

Project Outline

In 2016, we increased the distribution of the Faith dogs which included the CAC program which is The Children's Advocacy Center a 501 ©(3) nonprofit organization serving the East San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Valley in Los Angeles County in the assessment and treatment of child abuse. The use of therapy dogs with children who have been abused has been a wonderful addition to the services that CAC already offers to children and their families. Each day there is a volunteer present during the interview process and after the interview our volunteers give a Faith dog to the child and share Brielle's story about Faith.

In 2016, we continued to provide Faith dogs to the patients that our team members visited in various hospitals throughout the Southern California region. Pediatric Oncology patients are truly blessed beyond measure to receive a Faith dog knowing Brielle's story and the message she leaves; "With Faith All Things Are Possible.”

2018 Project Funding

The projected distribution in 2018 is 5,755 Faith dogs with a projected expenditure of $31,385 in 2018.

In the first and second quarter of 2018 we have secured $11,661 of funding through donations. For the final funding of 2018 we are in need of $19,724 to complete full funding for this project in 2018.

We ask that you make a commitment today and ask yourself...What can I offer in 2018 to support such a special outreach. Be it a one time donation or monthly donation... your gift touches lives through this project.
