July 18th Rosie was diagnosed with High Risk Multiple Myeloma. A cancer of the blood and bone. Her tailbone was fractured and had a tremendous amount of back pain. It's been a rollercoaster and has vastly developed. July 26th we took her to get her port put in to administer the chemotherapy. Upon arriving they informed us she was afib (irregular heartbeat) and had some concern with her kidneys. Immediately put her in an outpatient room. By late Friday afternoon she was moved to ICU, (assuring us it was just to keep a closer watch.) Friday evening some other complications came up due to the nausea and they were forced to intubate. We have since battled keeping her blood pressure down, anxiety which has caused her to hyperventilate in order to remove the ventilator. They started her on a treatment called plasmapheresis, plasma exchange in other words removing the protein in the blood from the cancer. As of August 14th we’ve been in the ICU 20 days with no improvement. She has complete kidney failure, the cancer was at 95% when found, also battling pneumonia and some other issues due to the kidney failure and cancer. Per doctor suggestion, we are now making our plans for her comfort care. This last month has been both emotionally and financially draining.
