Lo Harris: Emergency Reunion Fund

Donation protected

I have recently found out my Mom, Lorraine (Lo) Harris, has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. She has been given 6 weeks - 2 months to live. Generally I am not the type to ask for help, but I am asking for donations of any amount to give me a chance to be with my Mom as she passes.

For those of you who haven't had an opportunity to meet Lo, let me assure you, it is instantly evident she is made of something special. A cloth woven simply for her. And, boy, does she wear it proudly... My mom is unlike anyone else I have ever met. I am blessed to have been raised by such a beautiful, unique woman. She is warm. Friendly. Genuine. She accepts everyone. Period. Regardless of disability, race, religion, sexual identity. Regardless of what stage of life you may be sludging through at the time, my Mom is there to listen. To provide an ear and a bowl of her famous popcorn.

She can often be found boasting about her grandchildren. Always a proud parent. An even prouder grandparent. A friend with everyone. Willing to talk to anyone. A social butterfly like none other with an innate duty to help people. Mom spent most of her life dedicated to working in medicine and with at-risk youth. Always focusing on trying to make people's lives better. Which she has accomplished in spades. Until recently, she spent the largest percentage of her time doing what she could to help not only her family, but those in the community. If you couldn't find her gabbing about her family, you would probably find her in the kitchen. An active member of the VFW Auxillary she frequently helped prepare meals for VFW events and fundraisers. She is also known for the world's most earth-shattering cinnamon rolls and decadent banana bread, which she sells to help fund an account dedicated to covering the cost of her granddaughter's (my daughter's) ongoing medical needs.

She and my Dad have been married for 29 years. His health is failing quickly as well, and I fear I will lose them in quick succession. I currently live in Omaha, NE but my mom is in WY and finances are tight. I am asking for a donation of any size to help cover my travel expenses and missed wages while I stay with her, ultimately allowing me the next few weeks to be with my mom as she passes. Any excess will be used to help cover medical expenses and a memorial service. Regardless of your ability to donate, please share my plea. My mom is my world and being unable to hold her through this is unbearable.
