Gratitude Legacy Project

Donation protected

Our Fundraising Goal:
We are raising money to purchase items that the CORA Food Pantry needs to fill "The Birthday Closet". Donations will also go towards purchasing supplies to give the pantry a face lift. The list will include, painting the interior, landscaping and materials needed to build a storage bin.  All of this work will take place on September 7th, 8th, 9th 2018. The contact person is below if you are interested in volunteering on those dates.

What is the CORA Food Pantry?
Their long-standing approach is to provide emergency food to individuals and families who are thrust into a crisis because of job loss, illness, loss of domicile, loss of breadwinner or other hardship. The pantry being supported in this campaign is located in Pittsboro, NC.

What is the goal of the program?
Every child should be able to celebrate a birthday. When clients come through the pantry, a CORA volunteer asks if there is a child in the family that has a birthday in the current month. If “yes,” the client is introduced to CORA’s special “Birthday Closet” stocked with gift bags full of supplies and treats for a small birthday party. Clients can choose a Birthday Bag that is age- and gender-appropriate for the birthday child.  We are looking to raise $5000 by September 4, 2018, to purchase supplies for upgrades and to fill 100 bags.  This will cost approximately $1000. Each bag will have 9-11 items, plus cake mix and frosting. The money will also go towards purchasing lumber to build  recovery bins, a shed to protect the bins, cleaning and paint supplies to paint/deep clean the interior of the food pantry. All left over money will be used to purchase food for the pantry to give to those in the community that are in need.
A portion of the money will be withdrawn on Monday September 10, 2018. The remaining monies will be withdrawn within the following week to pay for the supplies purchased.

In addition, we are having a food drive starting August 26th, 2018 and ending September 9th, 2018. Our goal is to collect more the 2000 lbs of food. Click here  for a list of most foods needed. Drop Sites in Pittsboro are at the Root Cellar, the Pittsboro Road House, Pittsboro Food Lion, Country Farm and Home and the Chatham Public Library.
If you are interested in having a drop site at your facility, please contact Jeff at [phone redacted].

CORA serves any Chatham County resident who needs emergency food. Clients can receive a week’s worth of groceries up to six times in a 12-month period. These weekly food allotments are selected to provide 21 nutritious meals for each family member.

CORA also has two nutrition programs for children: a summer food program called SNACK! (Summer Nutritional Assistance for Chatham Kids) and the Backpack Support Program that helps independent Backpack programs provide food to disadvantaged school children for weekends and holidays.

All proceeds will be deposited into a personal account that is transparent to CORA and the 18 members of the legacy team.  We will be distributing the funds to members of the team based on the receipts they provide for reimbursement of the materials purchased for the project.  Any remaining money will be given to CORA in the form of a check.
