Boston is the place that makes me stronger - he helps me to achive my artist dream, introduces a tons of firends here, then provides me a dream job. Now, I'm praying that this generous place where collects the world best medical organizations could makes my mom stronger as well.
In late May, my mom was diagnosed as advanced non-small cell lung cancer with bone, lymph, and meningeal metastases. As the only daughter, I decided to back to her - at this moment that she really needs me. During the time from May to July, mom's health situation was getting worse. Also, mom couldn't eat and sleep at all because of torment from severe headache, for almost four months...
After family discussions, finally I decided to take mom to Boston for better medical treamtments. I trust Boston, I trust doctors here, even if she does not have any medical insurance in the state. I know that this will be a huge financial burden to me, but I have to try anyway - I hope mom can accompany me more, I hope mom can attend my wedding in the furture.
We arrived Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston around the middle of August. The treatment enviroment and docters here are really kind and professional. However, the first shock came to us very soon. According to the doctor's diagnosis, cancer cells cause a lot of fluid block in mom's brain - that's the reason of severe headache - also, this is the urgen problem we need to solve before furture treatments for lung cancer. We accepted docoter's recommendation - a brain shunt surgery - it costs about $128164 , and we need to totally self-pay that in two weeks, no more than three.
Be honest, I never thought I would ask money from anyone else... but now, I know I was wrong. Years of saving money, we can only pay about half of this huge medical amounts at this point. The surgery shows really effective result. However, illness plus the unexpected financial difficulty, mom is experiencing depression...
