A Great Career for Roran

Donation protected
Roran grew up on the streets of Portland and went through 25 years of active addiction and homelessness. He wouldn't have made it without the help of places like Outside-In, the Salvation Army Greenhouse, and friends to encourage and believe in what he has tried to do with his life.
It's been his dream all along to work at Outside-In and give back to the community that gave so much.

He just spent two years going to school and is now a Certified Medical Assistant. This is a real career for him. He's a great student and graduated with honors at the top of the class.

There is one more step and he needs some help.

"Moving On From the Past"

The Obstacle

Although it's been many years since Roran has made decisions that got him in legal trouble, the past won't let go of him. His old record has judgements for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) has that on their permanent review list. The DHS can prevent employers from hiring him in some of the settings where Roran can work, specifically his current job offer from Outside In. The offer is contingent on clearing the DHS background check.

Roran is willing to use ALL his available credit to pay off the fines and start the process of erasing (expunging) his record by completing payment of old judgements and an equal amount of court fees. After that his history with the courts will not show up and he will be able to work at places like Outside-In, the Q-Center and S.M.Y.R.C.

He can use his credit to take care of what he owes the courts, but needs help with the court costs for the expungement process. Over all he will need $3700.00 more than he can currently access.

The Opportunity

Roran has been offered a job as a Certified Medical Assistant at Outside In. They are aware of his record and have initiated the background check.
They want to hire him, they want someone who understands the reality of the challenges faced by homeless people, but DHS can prevent them from doing that. Our opportunity is to help clear his record so Roran can work at Outside In or in other non-profit settings that DHS can control.

The Place

Outside In is an organization whose mission is to help homeless youth and other marginalized people move towards improved health and self-sufficiency, and the place Roran has hoped to work for many years.
This is a link to a presentation Roran gave to his classmates that explains more of Outside In.

How you can help

I am trying to raise $1200.00 toward his effort within 30 days. I hope this is a modest goal and I know it will be a huge help. (I would love to be able to repeat this campaign in the future to provide further help. Much like student loans, these debts seem to take forever to pay off.)

I ask for any donation you can afford to give, so that he can move on to clear his record from things that happened over 20 years ago.

Every penny given will go toward clearing this road block. (except, of course, for the fees gofundme charges)

The rewards

I created this campaign because Roran's resources (and mine) have been depleted. Rewards to you can be intangible, the kind you feel in your heart.

I am a believer in Roran and I know in my heart that he can use his skills, gifts, and energies to better life for others, and that he can do that exquisitely well in his new career.

Please help as you are able. Your generosity will manifest in the lives of the people Roran will serve.
