SHADOWBOXING: A New Album by Daniel Bellefeuille

My name is Daniel Bellefeuille. I am a musician.

After touring my solo piano album, Opus 1, in western Canada, I was given the opportunity to care-take an isolated property on an island in the Salish Sea, in Canada. At that time, I did not know how to engage myself musically, and I played on and off with various incomplete pieces. Feeling defeated and exhausted,  I realized that I missed singing. SHADOWBOXING is the result of addressing my love for the voice. I began to revive old songs and composer new lyrics. After 6 months (December 2017- May 2018) came 13 pieces for piano and voice, with the intention of performing/recording them with a band. Two weeks before its premier, before a beautiful and enthusiastic group of 70 or so islanders, I cut 3 songs to make SHADOWBOXING a 10 song, 1 hour set. I went on to perform it in its entirety, as a solo concert, three more times in Western Canada and three more times in the German capital; while isolated songs have been played many times along the way. 

In November of 2018, I moved to Berlin and acquired the Artist VISA. I did this in order to meet a producer who would be ecstatic about recording SHADOWBOXING. I met Brian Trahan while busking in a cafe, and through him, I met the drummer and bassist who would go on to be the main album musicians.

HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED

1 - Jelmer and Shawn learnt all of the tracks based on SHADOWBOXING demos I created. We had 3 days of rehearsals, and thanks to all of the donors' funds, we were able to book the studio.

2 - Tracking (3 days) 
At our instruments in isolated rooms, music in our minds, Brian at the mixing board/computer, for 3 full days performing take after take. These days provided the piano/drums/bass backbone of the music.

3 - Vocal recording (3 days) 
Me in a vocal booth recording main and vocal tracks.

We used 3300 Euros for this:
- 1500 Euros for musicians
- 1500 Euros for 3 full days of studio time
- 300 Euros for Brian for 3 full days of studio time

THIS IS WHAT IS YET TO BE COMPLETED

1 - Overdubs (4-6 days)
Overdubs are tracks that we record onto the backbone structure of the piano/bass/drums and vocals. This may include strings on a few of the songs, added percussion, added piano tracks, synthesizer pads, wind instruments, and potentially a choir.

2 - Mixing

We still need 4950 Euros to complete this:
- 600 Euros to pay Brian for three days of vocal recording
- 1200 Euros for 6 days of overdubbing (strings, extra instruments, choir, percussion)
- 2250 Euros for mixing (225 euros/track) 
- 900 Euros for mastering (entire album)

**********SHADOWBOXING will be a full-length (roughly 1 hour) album comprising 10 songs.
