Carrie is Going To India!

Hi Everyone! Thank you for visiting my page!
I appreciate you taking the time and the interest in my trip to India this coming Summer of 2014.


What will I be doing in India?
I am going to be spending about 3 and a half weeks traveling across the country and getting a taste of India's rich culture, as well as their extremely overcrowded and impoverished communities. The group I will be traveling with will be Graduate and Post-Graduate students from Colorado State University and Westminster University in Utah. We plan to work with 6 schools specifically in India's small city of Wai, teaching both the instructors and the children hands on inquiry-oriented science units and how these concepts relate to their current living conditions. Another aspect of our teaching will focus on children with special needs in these communities of India. We will also be doing various other service learning and photovoice projects with the children and families we work with while we are staying in Wai.


Who am I?
-I am a current student at Colorado State University, in the Masters School of Social Work program, and will graduate in May of 2014.
-I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Metropolitan State University of Denver in May of 2013 with my Bachelors of Social Work, with an emphasis in Child Welfare.
I have done a great deal of work with children, adolescents and families with significant mental health and behavioral issues, through the Division of Youth Corrections, Arapahoe Douglas Mental Health, and Midway Youth Services/Larimer County Department of Human Services.


What will I need?
Financial Breakdown and Timeline

-$3,500 for airfare, accommodations, most meals and local transportation for July 29th to August 5th portion of trip. This will be the service learning portion of the trip, in which we will be working in the schools and staying in the local community.
**This does not include travel visa and spending money, which are estimated to be about $1000 total.
-$1000 for pre-trip tour through Northern India. This will be the "tourist" portion of the trip, in which we will be staying in fully functioning hotels with all basic amenities, and will be sight-seeing. This is designed to give us a better understanding of the vast differences in culture, and access to amenities and resources amongst the different parts of India.



January 27th: $500 deposit
February-March: Obtain Travel Visa
March 7th: ~$1500 due to cover airline tickets
April 7th: Remaining Fees Due



This is such a great opportunity for me and my future as a Social Worker, as I can only imagine what an eye opening and life changing experience it will be. I am really looking forward to this adventure and all it has to offer!
