Medical & Radiotherapy Costs

Donation protected
My name is Davin, I am a recent immigrant to Australia. I moved here just over a year ago and been looking for full time work since, after 14 months, 6000+ CV's and countless job interviews, I'm still living on temp jobs to pay for the roof over my head and food on the table.

9 months ago I had 3 days of constant migraines and after that ended I noticed I had formed a slight stutter, I knew something was wrong but I had no money, so after saving up a few hundred dollars for some tests (which took 5 months to save), they found I have an astrocytoma tumor sitting in my brain only the size of a quarter of a pea sitting in between my pituitary and my left temporal horn of the hippocampus.

I was diagnosed with a similar one which was cured with chemotherapy 9 years ago but this one is new and not related. Doctors are confident with a dual attack of chemotherapy and radiotherapy that they can get rid of it but this costs money that I don't have.

I began chemotherapy early December and Radiation therapy is planned for early march, a few weeks after they complete installing the machine.

A hospital here is in the process of installing a new Radiotherapy machine that uses high precision beams that reduce treatment time down by 90% and reduce follow up appointments by the same amount. Meaning a better quality of life sooner so I can return to looking for work.

Without government healthcare funding this would've cost ~AUD$60,000 but will cost me AUD$8,000 after everything is done. Here is a breakdown of its costs:

$800 - Chemotherapy Medication
$6000 - Radiation Therapy Treatment
$800 - Specialist visits
$400 - Initial & Follow up tests

While I have started Chemo, they haven't billed me yet but they have said I will be billed for it in late January.

I am a strong believer at not free-loading off people by doing my best and giving back to the community. Even though I currently barely earn enough to reach the poverty line, I have been able to find just enough work to keep the minimum bills paid since I moved here 14 months ago. I have fallen through the gaps though with the government and cannot get social benefits to have more money and this means saving money for anything is next to impossible until I find work. I have been working hard since moving here to look for work but also to create myself work.

I am soon to creating deals with several businesses in bringing educational games into schools; this wont make me rich by any means but it will at least be the right step in the right direction. This is part of my life's work of improving education but at this point of my life I wont be able to see it come to fruition if I don't get treatment. If you want to see some of my work and what I'm working towards you can see Project1845 and MCEDU. I am also working with several universities, museums and a government with a lot of promising opportunities in the future to help others.

Basically, Project 1845 is part of a big plan to create multiple historical environments, from Beijing, Pompeii, Historical battles to Hiroshima and many more to help teach students about history but they can learn geography to languages to team building skills and so much more while helping them understand foreign cultures and reducing racism and inter-cultural conflicts, this has already been a huge success, helping many westerners understand with our main project of Beijing in 1751 that the Chinese aren't as bad as the media portrays them regularly. this is being ported into MCECU in schools and over half a million people have explored its streets so far, gleaning wisdom from the millions of facts that can be found.

I appreciate any help whatsoever, While I cant offer much in return other than thanks, I can share at least a quote of something i try to live my life by every day.

To see the world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wildflower. Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour.

P.S if I raise more money than what the bills cost, I will donate the rest to the McGrath Foundation that is helping countless breast cancer sufferers in Australia.
