Anuraag's Medical Relief Campaign

Tax deductible
About Me
Hi, my name is Anuraag Kumar and I am currently a second year student at the University of California, Berkeley intending to major in Public Health with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. I hope to attend medical school someday in order to become a surgeon/physician and continue to help people. During my free time, I love to play golf, go on long walks on the beach, or anything that lets me soak in the sun.

About my Trip
India, the seventh largest country by area and second most populous country in the world, is located in South Asia. It is known for its incredible cultural and commercial wealth. It has one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but still faces immense challenges with poverty, malnutrition and adequate public healthcare.

My trip to India this upcoming summer will span 5 weeks in the beautiful city of Kodaikanal, located in southern India in the district of Tamil Nadu. It is known for its pleasant climate, sweeping mountainside views and its rich flora. It isn't uncommon to see monkeys swinging from the trees or hear birds chirping in the distance. As a result, Kodaikanal has quickly become a spot for local tourists to seek refuge from the heat of the lowlands and enjoy a peaceful mountain vacation. Despite the increase in the local economy due to tourism, many families still struggle to make ends meet and bring home less than $2 a day, all the while leaving their children in the care of teachers at local crèches.

My time in India this upcoming summer will be spent with a team of doctors, outreach specialists, and students around the world creating collaborative solutions in clinical and health education work around the region. All donations will go toward the work done in Kodaikanal.

As a citizen of the United States, we are graced with an established healthcare system and a society that places value on health education and awareness. I believe healthcare and health education should be a right for all and not simply a privilege.
