Thank you for taking your time to support a karate-ka from San Antonio, TX. My name is Sierra Luna and I am raising funds for karate (training, equipment, travel, and tournaments) because I feel I have a small window of opportunity to accomplish tournament related dreams and nationally and internationally represent my city and state in a positive light through the art of karate -do. February 2nd I received confirmation on being selected to be a part of the USA Martial Arts Team at the 2014 World Martial Arts Games. This means a 3 day training camp in Seattle and a 4 day tournament in Vancouver , Canada. I'm so excited for this opportunity and feel very blessed. Your financial help means so much to me. Karate background
I have been training in Hayashi- Ha Shito -Ryu for 12 years in January 2014 and I have been an instructor of this art for 8 years. Before moving out of my childhood home, I had been a multi medalist locally and nationally over the period of 4 years. Among those medals were several gold in open-hand and weapon forms from city and state tournaments. I had also been a 2004 and 2007 national bronze medalist. From then until now scheduling and different responsibilities had prevented me from being a competitor.
Now
June 2012 I began working part time at a local non-profit human relations organization and in January 2013 I returned to school after 6 years with a change in my major. Now I am a full time student(sophomore) studying kinesiology with a concentration in physical education. On my own time, I continue to train with my master instructor and instruct at a local training hall. Being at the mid point at my educational goal is where I feel my small tournament window is. I know that once I get into my career I wont be able to compete as regularly as I can right now. My mindset is that everything good that I am able to accomplish is not just for me. Being able to promote traditional karate and bring positive attention to San Antonio benefits this lifetime study and this community. However, being a full time student and a part time employee at non-profit does not exactly provide the funds I need to accomplish these karate goals. That is where gracious donors like you come in.
