A small independent school on the island of Molokai, Aka`ula School is in its twelfth year of transforming young lives. Through our award winning environmental education program and rigorous academic standards, our students learn to be accountable, persistent, and to create meaningful lives based on their passions and abilities.
We invite you to join our school `ohana (family) by making a one-time donation or a monthly pledge to our financial aid campaign.
Since opening in 2003, we have provided an oasis of opportunity for our students, 80% of whom are Hawaiian. In our still struggling economy, we work hard to provide equal access to families of all income levels. On average, 80% of our students are from low-income homes, and without significant financial assistance, they would not be able to attend our school. We receive no state or federal funding, and we operate on a barebones budget. This year 85% of our families receive some sort of financial aid, and 70% of our families receive the maximum financial aid we offer. In order to provide this much needed aid, we must raise $2500 per student per year. This year that amounts to $75,000.
Your pledge moves us toward our goal of providing a quality learning environment for our ethnically and economically diverse students. Please join us in bringing to life our school motto of "Learning and Leading Together".
