To honor my Grandmother’s kind-hearted and and faithful demeanor, I have started a GoFundMe to be donated in her memory. I will be donating all of the money raised to the NIH (National Institute of Health) to help fund Alzheimer’s research. If there is anything I have learned in the past 4 years as a Biomedical Science student, it is that too often we as a society and scientific community are focused on finding cures for disease, rather than focusing more on disease prevention. I have put a lot of thought into where I believe the money will be most effectively used in order to help investigate Alzheimer’s prevention along with slowing progression and finding a cure, eventually deciding the NIH would be best.
If you have ever had to endure watching a loved one suffer with this tragic disease, feel free to donate. Even if you have not had to experience watching the horrible disease progression take over the life of someone you love, it would really mean a lot to me and my family to receive support for such a great cause. Even small donations will help and be put to good use. If you can’t donate, please share with others so that we can maximize the donation’s potential! The goal is set at $1000 and I’ll be donating $250 myself so we are already a quarter of the way there
I wish I could have prevented this from happening, but I’m trying to do what I can to have faith like my Grandma did in attempt to lead to future discoveries so that eventually this disease will not cause any more loss and pain.
