My name is Emma Katus and I’m currently in my first year studying Law in the University of Limerick. I have been lucky enough to be made a part of the VESA team that is heading out to St. Lucia and Khula Village in South Africa this summer. I feel very privileged to be in the position to make a positive impact in these communities as humanitarian work and environmental protection is something I am very passionate about. I will be partaking in a broad range of volunteering work while in Africa, including infrastructure, education and wildlife conservation. I will be working closely with children teaching English and basic sanitation, hygiene and nutrition. As well as this I will be helping reinvigorate the village facilities by building new play equipment and helping in the construction of bathrooms and kitchens. I also get the opportunity to work with cheetahs and other African cats in a rehabilitation, breeding and release programme, as well as working in the Simangaliso Wetlands Park and Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park where I will be assisting in the observation, population monitoring, capture and release of crocodiles and the maintenance of the Saint Lucia Crocodiles Centre. The reasons I have chosen to partner with VESA in this amazing project is because I feel they provide the opportunity to participate in humanitarian work in regions largely overlooked by charities, foreign aid and governmental support. VESA pride themselves upon their sustainability and ensure to source only local building materials in order to stimulate the local economy and keep their carbon footprint to the absolute minimum. With this incredible opportunity comes a great cost. I hope to raise the necessary funding through fundraising events and my Go Fund Me page. I greatly appreciate any donations or contributions that you would be willing to make to this worthy and influential cause. I am making this page in hopes to raise the much needed funds and spread the word about any upcoming events in aid of VESA. I also hope to provide information about the amazing work VESA do in remote communities around the world.
