Guru Ram Dass Ashram is based at Quinta do Rajo in the small village of Santa Susana in Portugal. Until February 2020 it sustained itself through donations from those who attended the Ashram for courses. Since March, following government policy on Covid-19, it has stopped hosting courses. Without its regular income, the Ashram is facing a financial crisis and potential closure. The situation is urgent. We're reaching out to you to support our beloved spiritual lighthouse, so that it may keep serving the heart of humanity.
There is a call for change in the world and now is the time to nurture what matters to us. Ashram means spiritual effort. It is a platform for self-initiation and elevation. Our wish is for Guru Ram Dass Ashram to continue to welcome guests and visitors. We wish it to bloom, to prosper and to continue to spread Truth.
GURU RAM DASS ASHRAM - A LIVING HEART OF COMMUNITY
In these times more than ever, there is a call from humanity for strong foundations and spiritual sanctuaries of light and faith.
Guru Ram Dass Ashram exists within the rhythm of a daily Sadhana and Keertan, and flows with the cycles of nature. It has a yoga space, a large dining room, dormitories and guests rooms and a large and abundant garden. At the moment it is the permanent home of six human beings, two dogs and a rich variety of flowers and plants. Through work, care and dedication the garden over time provides gifts for the communal kitchen.
The Ashram was founded in September 2008 through the inspiration, initiative and investment of Satya Kaur and Shiv Charan Singh. Satya and Shiv Charan continue to serve through their humble guidance and teachings, however since 2017 the Ashram has been run by the non-profit Associação Ram Dass Guru.
Many of you may have visited and found peace here among the delightful flowers, or the smell of aromatic herbs. You may have experienced the heart of selfless service through the spirit of Guru Ram Dass, Guru Nanak’s voice in humble chanting or the radiant word of the Scripture of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Some of you may have connected to the Universal Soul and the wisdom of the laws of nature as you walked the path of Sikh Dharma, Kundalini Yoga and Karam Kriya.
URGENT SITUATION - WE INVITE YOU TO CONTRIBUTE
We invite you to play a role in spreading jewels of wisdom to the future generations and to become one of the guardians of the Ashram. We invite you to contribute to its future in any way you can. We need your support right now.
FUNDRAISING - HOW YOU CAN HELP
Every month this place costs approx. 3.500 Euros to merely sustain itself. This does not include costs to sustain the people who work here and who dedicate their time and energy taking care of the Ashram.
Our financial reserves can only cover these expenses until the end of July.
We are looking to raise enough funds to cover our expenses for at least 10 months. We estimate that this will give the association enough time to re-evaluate and to adapt to the times - to focus on becoming a sustainable Ashram on a long term basis.
Association Ram Dass Guru is a not-for-profit association. All funds raised will be invested into the Ashram, its visitors and those who run it. Any surplus funds from the fundraising will go towards developing new ways of being self-sustaining, as well as developing the community outreach programs and social projects further.
We are grateful for your contribution, including spreading this call for support to your sangat, communities, friends and families..
