Leukemia Recovery Fund

On October 25, 2013 Ruth went to Emergency Room with severe headaches. Over the next week, she was tested for many things, as the hospital team said this was like an episode of 'House' played out right before them. As they crossed out possibilities, the teams of doctors starting slimming down to an Oncologist and an Autoimmune Specialist.

At this point they sent Ruth's blood work to U of M hospital for further testing. A couple days later our whole world was turned upside down. Ruth was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia and was given 55% chance of survival. Shortly after, she was transferred to U of M Hospital, the best in the nation for Leukemia treatment. This is where she spent the next 5 weeks.

Ruth had a lot of downs while in the hosptial. She was admitted to ICU where she stayed for 4 days. She had bleeding in her brain from her blood platelets being too low, memory loss and constant fever. Eventually she was able to start Chemo and her chances of survival were raised.

Ruth is now home from the hospital resting. She received great news from the doctors on December 20, 2013 that she is officially in remission. We could not be more happy.

Unfortunately, Ruth was denied her short term disability and is not able to work for at least another 6 months as she will need to continue to receive Chemo treatments once every week. Ruth and her husband Mark, have been hit hard by this denial as they have now gone from a 2 income family, to one income (even Mark's income has been cut back from all the unpaid time he has had to take off to help Ruth through her treatments).

We are asking that you please help Ruth and Mark as they have a lot of medical bills to cover and every day expenses. Even things like gas to get to work are hard for them to come by. Many people have been asking how to make a contribution, and every dollar counts!

Thank you all!
