Mount Crumpit for PAW team

Donation protected
The fire is roaring, the chill has set in
Cooper keeps reminding me I'm late once again
The New Year is coming, just like the last
before we know it all our friends will be here celebrating
The Year thats just passed
We are asking again
for the dogs big and small
for any donation, anything at all
We take blankets and dog beds and leashes slightly used
( ones that your dog used once and then politely refused)
Beds for the elders, and treats for them all
A coat for the chilled,a bowl and better yet, see that its filledWhen you are out shopping for your own furry friend
Throw in an extra item or two
for a dog on the mend.
There are dogs round the corner, who don't have a treat
Those dogs and their owners often don't have supper to eat
they don't have a blanket to cuddle up soft
They don't get their shots to fight diseases off
They would love a coat to help shed the rain
or maybe the medicine they need
to combat the pain

Imagine the difference we all get to make,
giving a little, just for the dogs sake
Then watch as a light goes on in the friends eyes
as they see that goodwill still survives.
Then all the dogs in Whoville ( or at Dogpatch Resort)
will join hand in paw and howl with pride
at what you have all done to help others survive.

I've just woken up from a long winters nap,
Been spending every spare moment
With the long-legged beast in my lap

Last week we had quite a scare,
Rushed him in to the vets,
Where he got the very best of care
I was able to look that vet in the eye
and say "whatever it takes" before I started to cry

Now in reflection, I realize how blessed
I was able to provide and to pay
For what the vet said was the best
Its important to Cooper and I that we now reach out and share
There are so many others who love and who care
To me he is everything, in my world full and whole
There are those on the street
With little more than their pet to hold

Okay...enough of the silly Dr. Suess that I go with every year. I almost lost my boy last week. It was close, very very close. I was lucky, but coupled with that luck, I was fortunate to have the means for him to have quality care.
There are so many that have so little and I can only imagine how it must feel to love a dog with all your heart and not be able to get the care, or even the food that they need to survive. Its why we support organizations like Portlands PAW (Portland Animal Welfare) Team. Their plan is to offer health care, food and the neccessities that facilitate the needy keeping their pets. What this means simply is fewer animals going to the shelters.

Dogpatch Resort is once again reaching out to all of you to show what a lot of people doing a little can achieve. We know all of you have your own causes that you support. This is our way of making it easy for you to give to some causes that are very close to the heart of Dogpatch Resort. Every Year I fall short on thank-you notes and follow up, and yet every year Coopers friends step up and we are able to make a difference in our community. Mt. Crumpit Run is named for the trip the Grinch took back to Whoville with the sled full of toys and Max the dog riding shotgun. I am not a registered non profit, but this year I can provide reciepts on request directly from the PAW team. While cash is always appreciated, we also take ANY TYPE OF DOG RELATED ITEM. Once again this year we have chosen the PAW team as one of our recipients. I have attended the clinics that the PAW team gives in Portland. They provide veterinary care for low income and homeless in our area. The majority of homeless are either veterans or mentally challenged. Often their dogs are what keeps them going. PAW team provides food, medicine, ongoing care, and spay and neuters. What impressed me most about this team was the way they would reach out to the human and ask how they were doing. Many of these homeless folks would seek out care and food for their pets, and not for themselves. This organization shows them the way to get much needed support.

Thank you so much as always for your support
