Dan’s Road to Recovery

On March 6th, Dan suffered a horrific accident. During his race of the 52+ expert class, as he was in the lead going into the fifth lap, the wind kited him as he was going over a jump. At a speed of approximately 55mph he was sent over his handlebars in the air before hitting the ground being knocked unconscious for a few minutes. He was immediately assisted and an ambulance was called as he had incredible pain all over but especially to his back. Upon arriving at the hospital, they ran tests from head to toe initially discovering fractures throughout his back, neck and to his ribs. After further tests it was discovered that there was damage to every bone and ligament in his spine. Surgery was immediately scheduled. He had surgery on his back, in what the easiest explanation was to have a “brace” protect his spine on the inside. He is still recovering in the hospital, expected to wear a brace on his neck and his back for at least 6-8 weeks. The road to recovery is going to be a long one, and although insurance will cover a portion of his medical bills unfortunately he will have to pocket some of the expenses and we would like to try to relieve some of the financial stress from him and Angela.
