Nick Duncan Memorial Fund

A true hero has left us. Nick was an inspiration to everyone that knew him and a friend to all. From his battles as an Army Airborne soldier to his multiple battles with cancer and loss of leg, Nick never surrendered. This coming March would have been 5 years since receiving a bone marrow transplant for ALL, a rare form of Leukemia, which would have deemed him medically cured. He was a soldier, survivor, a hero. Nick will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Kiley Duncan and step-son Gavin.

A few quotes from Nick that speak to his uncanny character...

As I sit here sleepless, I remind myself what I'm thankful for. No. 1, that I get to be sleepless at all. I'm so lucky and thankful to be breathing sometimes I forget that not long ago I was in a hospital bed fighting for my life. Thankful for having gone through that ordeal proving to myself a whole new kind of strength, and seeing the world differently and realizing how careless I was with something so precious like my own life. 2, having my story help and even inspire other people's lives. And 3, being in love and marrying what was just a close friend but now a best friend and partner for life. Thankful for having a woman that looks at me in complete admiration not for who she wants or hopes I am but what I actually am. Thankful that I get to be her husband and treat her with all the love and respect she deserves.4, Thankful for the opportunity to be a stepfather and help my wife raise a young man, giving him the necessary tools to navigate a harsh world but maintaining a kindness and giving heart without being weak.5, thankful for every friend I have, thankful for every laugh, smile, and tear along the way. Whether we see each other daily or you are someone I only see on fb, I'm thankful for at least one good memory we shared and you've all helped make me who I am. Lastly thankful for the opportunity to keep making memories. -Nick 11/8/2013
