Cancer - Vehicle Repair Fund

Let me tell you about my Wife Lesley, the kindest, selfless and most giving person I know.

She has dealt with Cancer three times in her life so far. In 1995 she was diagnosed with Lymph Node Cancer, went through 3 months of Radiation and Chemotherapy and had three Nodes removed. In 2007 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, again having Radiation and Chemo and had a Mastectomy. Last year they found a Brain Tumor, and she is currently undergoing Radiation and Chemo again, as the Doctors are just trying to keep the tumor from getting any bigger or migrating. She has been told that it is in an inoperable position and she is terminal, and been told she has two years to live. She has found it funny, that every time she has Radiation and Chemo, her hair comes back a totally different texture and color.  Due to her Cancer and other medical problems, she has not been able to work since 1995.

She volunteers most of her free time to her family, church, schools and community. She is a member of the School PTA, the Administrator of her Church as well as head of the Usher Board, composing and printing every Sunday bulletin. She is also the President of the County Lioness Club, actually winning this years Melvin Jones Fellow Award for her work and volunteerism in her community. She also attends or works at every Cancer Awareness Rally or Fund Raiser that she can get to.

She has lost most of her immediate family to one type of cancer or another. She lost her oldest Sister (1990), another older Sister (1998) her older Brother (2003), her Father (2005) and Mother (2008). When her oldest Sister passed away in 1990, she adopted her three nieces to raise to adulthood. When the oldest of the three had two children out of wedlock, and could not keep them, we took the two girls and are raising them as our Grandchildren, figuring that is best for them. The oldest girl suffered seizures and has Epilepsy, and had spent several weeks in Childrens Hospital..

The company I worked for was purchased by a larger corporation in 2016, and because of the difference in pay structure, we were all hit with a major reduction in salary. Their insurance is not as good as the previous company, plus they consider her Cancer as a preexisting condition, so the insurance benefits are greatly reduced. The cost of Radiation, Chemo , Medications,  Hospital and Doctors Appointments for 2018 is more than I make in a year.

Despite being sick, she is very independent and drives herself to Radiation and Chemo appointments. She has become the chauffeur for a lot of relatives over the years, currently driving her oldest niece to work (she has Macular Degeneration and can’t get a license), driving her Aunt to Church and shopping, and driving her Uncle to the VA Hospital for appointments.

Last month, her vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Durango, blew an engine and will require $5000 to replace the engine or $3500 to rebuild the engine. She is currently borrowing a friends extra car, but will have to return it soon. She really needs the size and cargo capacity of the SUV.

We would really appreciate some help in getting her vehicle fixed and appreciate anything that can be done.
