Kurtis' Celebration of Life Fundraiser

Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart filled with sorrow that I share the following.

On August 1, 2022, Kurt unexpectedly and tragically passed away at the age of 31. This GoFundMe aims at raising sufficient funds to cover the various costs associated with end of life necessities, including a Celebration of Life, the date of which is still to be determined.

It is difficult to articulate the tremendous pain and grief his family, friends and community are feeling. It is, however, easier to highlight the joy and light that Kurt brought into the lives of all those he touched.

What Kurt may have lacked in physical stature, he made up for with an oversized heart, a heart that shone brightest and beat the strongest when he interacted with others. One of Kurt's defining attributes was his altruism. His ability to selflessly prioritize the interest of others, even strangers, before his own was unparalleled. There are countless stories of Kurt going out of his way to help others, often with complete disregard for potential personal (and legal) consequences. There was no calculation involved; this was simply an instinctual drive to immediately come to the aid of those who needed help. The only benefit he sought was for others to benefit, the hallmark of a great friend.

The shortness of Kurt’s life stands in stark contrast to the innumerable, deeply meaningful relationships he formed. Kurt was a son, a brother, a cousin, a grandson, a nephew, a friend, and most importantly, a person who treated others with kindness and love. If success in life is measured by how many people (and animals) love you, Kurt was one of the most successful individuals I have ever met.

The loss of Kurt will have a permanent impact on all those who knew and loved him. However, Kurt would undoubtedly want that impact to be a positive one. If you have a story or experience with Kurt that you would like to share, please do so below in the comments. Please note that any excess funds will be donated to the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS), a registered non-profit charity that Kurt often volunteered for.

Kurt, my friend, you will forever be loved and never forgotten.
