Sabrina the Baby Alpaca

I am setting up this donation page to help them with the vet expenses for Sabrina. Ann & Andy Merriwether have always been there for us whenever the Alpaca community needed them for advise, knowledge and support which is priceless This is our way of giving a little back to you.

On Monday Dec 16th Ann noticed Sabrina bloated and Andy was already on his way to Cornell with her. This was Ann's facebook post on Dec 17th
Sabrina update: The morning update was bad. She bloated again in the night removing the gas was not as successful. It does appear that's she's blocked at the exit of C1 or entrance of C2. They are not sure with what. They are going to try a couple of things that they don't expect to work. They are proposing surgery. We don't have an estimate yet but her bill stands at $1200 now. The last time we did this surgery it was $3000 and we lost the animal anyway. I'm not sure we can swing that anyhow. Of course she's my favorite cria, nicest one we have this year and her sire was lost. I think she's his last cria. I'm feeling so low.

And her additional posts

okay in continued financial insanity the CT scan showed a potentially fixable hole in her diaphragm. C2 is intruding through the hole and is blocking one lung and wrapping around her esophagus. If they nick her hepatic portal vein that's the end, if they nick her esophagus that's the end too. The tissue is all really friable so it could be all fused together. Post surgery the initial bloating could have damaged the vagus nerve not to mention all the usual stuff. So totally stupid to try this but we did.

And of course they did try to save Sabrina's life and this is her post of today Dec. 18th

she survived the surgery but a huge part of C2 had died from being strangulated by her diaphragm so they removed it. They have no idea if she can even continue to survive without that much of her c2 compartment. She's alive now and back with her mom.

She's up and nursing can you believe it? She's sternal and bright. Temp is normal and her glucose level is improving indicating her gut just might be working. Andy and I burst into hugging tears Quack and Bear then freaked out and jumped on us, boom 250+ pounds of dogs making a group hug. Now Quack and Bear won't leave me along they keep staring into my eyes in worried fashion.

Most of us don't know Ann & Andy personally but we do know of their unconditional love for their animals. We all know that when we ask for advise on Paca This or any of our personal Facebook pages you can be sure Ann or Andy will always respond with their extensive knowledge of Alpacas. Donating to Sabrina's vet bills is just a small gesture we can offer to Ann and Andy for always being there for us.

Whatever the outcome of Little Sabrina we will continue to support them .

Update, new revised bill will be $6500 plus. If she keeps improving she may be able come home Monday.
