Shawn's Surgery Fund

Many of you already know, our friend Shawn Graby had emergency surgery in February. At first, Rick took his husband to urgent care and when they realized he needed some bigger tests and imaging they suggested the go to the ER. Shawn knew an ER visit would be expensive so he asked Rick to forgo the Emergency and they'd "just see" how he felt the next day. Thankfully, Rick knew in his gut something was really wrong so he took Shawn to the ER anyway.
There, they did a CT scan and immediately began prepping him for surgery. It was a huge shock. Yes he was in pain, but they did not expect this. Shawn's appendix was severely infected and ready to burst. We are all counting our blessings that it didn't, they got it safely out and he recovered at home with Rick by his side.
And now the reality has set in. The reality that even though they were lucky enough to have insurance but that doesn't mean they aren't facing some serious debt that they can not afford. They have insurance but still, need to pay between 5 - 6 THOUSAND dollars. Just for an appendix, and to save his life.
I wanted to do this Go Fund Me for them because they deserve it. These friends of ours are there for you, for me, for everyone in the community when we need help. Rick and Shawn are always giving to friends and even to friends of friends. When my husband moved out, they came over and helped me put my house in order, to reset my new life and to give me a fresh start. They spent 2 days cleaning and arranging my house and helping me get rid of all my clutter and everything that was weighing me down. My friend had no bed and they got it for her, they picked it up and delivered it and set it up for her.
My life has been so enriched by both of them. I feel blessed and lucky to call them my family now and I know I am not alone. I have seen them work for their friends, let their friends stay with them, feed them, clothe them, they are the first ones always there to offer support from a hug, a shoulder or a hand. They also are known for their charity work and volunteering at fundraisers for Pride and SAAF. Shawn had to miss work (as his job requires heavy lifting and he was not allowed to) so, now with this new huge debt, they are in over their heads. It's time we all stepped up and give whatever we can, back to them.
Every dollar will help and if you can't donate, that's ok! I know the goal is pretty high, but don't let that scare you! That's just the most they need, but really any help is help. So please feel free to share this with someone you know who might want to donate. If you live in Tucson there's a good chance you know someone who loves them too!
