COVID-19 is affecting people globally. Many countries including Cabo Verde are experiencing disruptions resulting from this pandemic. No matter who you are or where you are, we are all impacted to some degree.
For many, this is an everyday struggle, and with this pandemic it has added unprecedented strain on already ailing families.
The Cape Verdean Basketball Association, ACVB, has taken the initiative to start the COVID-19 Relief Fund to help as many communities as possible in the Cabo Verde Islands. ACVB is pledging to feed at least 500 families in the islands Sao Vicente, Boavista, and Santiago where COVID 19 has had the most impact. Proceeds aggregated by this fundraise will go directly to families affected.
ACVB has partnered with organizations in Santiago and Sao Vicente who will purchase the materials and distribute them. (In Santiago - Cruz Vermelia, Boavista - Jardim Santa Isabel, & Sao Vicente - Bento Lima.) These organizations are already doing ground work in these communities. They have helped identify families in need.
By contributing to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, you are helping feed families mostly affected in areas where little to no assistance was provided. The funds will be used to purchase food items and
distributed depending on the need. We will document delivery ensuring that your donation gets to the right people.
This initiative will depend on how much resources we are able to raise.
The Associação Cabo Verdiana de Basquetebol, Incorporated, ACVB, is a grassroots nonprofit organization that aims to connect young fathers and families with the community through youth development activities and it’s C.A.R.E. (Community Advantage Resource Engagement) Program. Through our own initiatives and community partnerships, ACVB brings together community members for recreational and athletic activities while also integrating youth development workshops and basketball clinics that focus on health & wellness, leadership, and life skills. ACVB has strived to serve diverse communities both nationally and internationally with efforts to bring people together by promoting unity.
In 2017, ACVB conducted its first humanitarian trip in the island of Sao Vicente to work with at risk youths and young adults. Collectively, the organization served over 400 youths through community service, basketball clinics, tournaments, and donations. The organization continues to make meaningful connections with young fathers, and families to continue targeting youths. With basketball as our platform, ACVB aspires to make global impact by continuing to help vulnerable communities that are vastly impacted by poverty, violence, and other disparities through the C.A.R.E program. We strongly believe that through sports we have the power to change lives.
