Helmet & Hospital Stay For Alex

Hello everyone!! Many of you know that Alex was born 2 1/2 months early, while he is a thriving and healthy growing 8 month old baby bear he has developed Brachycephaly (aka flat head syndrome). We have tried everything possible to help self correct this at home..... bought the pillows, kept a strict repositioning schedule and keep him up and active as much as possible it wasn’t enough and he requires a helmet to help correct it. We only have a short time frame to work with which luckily goes off of his “adjusted age” of 5 1/2 months. Unfortunately our insurance Tricare does not cover this since it is considered “cosmetic”. The cost of the helmet is $1800, $600 of that is due before they will even begin to make the helmet he needs. As it also turns out his hospital bill was a whopping $222,430.00!!!!! 8 months later and we are just now getting the bill for over $700 for copay!!
