A Perfect Storm
How our storm came to be. I have suffered with Crohn's disease since 1991, I had an intestinal blockage and had part of my stomach and small intestines removed. I have gone in and out of remission since. In 2007 I became disabled after continued relapses. In 2010, David lost his job after taking too much time off work dealing with my excessive hospital admissions. In 2011 I was in the hospital for almost 3 months and my new doctors finally have been able to identify what was causing my many relapses, I was 77 pounds upon release and could not walk or do the most mundane tasks, such as sitting up in a bed without David's assistance. At that time, we did not know that David could have been hired, and paid, as my caregiver as I required around the clock care for the next 2 years. We have existed solely on my disability payments and the help of family.

In October of 2013, we were broke. David had not been able to find a new job, family could no longer help and the expenses were just to high that we ended up on the streets. Our perfect storm.

I need surgery and a place to recover. This needs to be done in San Bernardino County as that is where my doctors are located. We found out that David qualifies to be my caregiver, but we need to be in San Bernardino County. We have looked and found that Big Bear is affordable, we just need some help in getting into someplace we can afford on my disablity alone, such as a studio apartment or one room cabin. The application process for David being my caregiver is a long process; not to mention that we have to have a roof over our heads. David has been studying web development the past few years and soon will be able to pick up work that he can do from home... until a time comes that I can be left alone, then he can find a more permanent job. We just need help to get us into a place, then we can take it from there.

The amount we listed is a rough estimate, it might be more or it might be less. We will post regular updates as we find out more information. There are programs out there to help, but we need a physical address in the county to qualify for them. The amount includes: getting us through to the end of the month, approx. first months rent plus security/utility deposits, transportation, food (we do have 72.00 month in food stamps), medical care for David (he is in need of his high blood pressure medication) and everything we need to get settled.

I know it's the holiday season and many people are strapped for cash right now, but any help anyone can give us would be greatly appreciated. Oh, that is David's picture posted. He's the pretty one.
