Cambodia Volunteer Trip

Hello to everyone! First I want to thank you for taking the time to read my page. I know you all live busy lives, and there always seems to be a story to support. I would love to tell you mine.

4 years ago I was told about the opportunity to travel to different third world countries to teach the trade of cosmetology. I was told about the endless story of slaverly in these countries. Sex trafficking being the largest money producing one. I learn there were a few non profit organizations who assist men and women in getting out of the slavery, putting them in group homes, and giving them counseling until they were ready to learn a trade to support their lives and or family lives. You might wondering why they would need a trade, hadn't they learned anything in their lives? Well since the average age of a child, yes child, that is sold into sex trafficking is fairly young, no most never go or finish school. They are programmed to think they have to fo this or owe for their family to do this work. It's an unbelievable sad situation that happens more often then any of us want to imagine. Here in the states, homeless children are the most likely to get involved in the situation. And unfortunately over seas many are sold by people their family trust in to make ends meet to survive.

Cambodia is one of most well known countries that the rate is extremely high in. There are some amazing documentaries on the subject matter on Netflix, Finding Home being one. It show cases the whole story, even the end of them learing trades and starting a fresh life.

I was granted the opportunity to apply and be except into the Justice and Soul Foundation. It is an organization that fundraises for the living expenses, and the teaching of the cosmetology trade to men and women who have been saved from a extreme situation, sex trafficking. Justice and Soul foundation has what they call guest artist that come out all year long to teach what they might be most passionate about to the students in the program. I have been granted the chance to go for 6 weeks to teach in this program! There are no regulations in Cambodia, so JASF has made an impeccable program that is 2 years long for the students, building them a foundation for a lifetime. Unlike here in the states with continued education at our fingers tips, this is an opportunity for the students to learn from guest artist who love the trade and have the ability to show case their best work the weeks they are there.

Background on me, since I was kid I swore up and down I would do mission work. And I have, locally. I don't have much money, but I own my craft of hair. I work full time as a Cosmetology educator at Vanguard Paul Mitchell currently, and part time behind the chair at A Lee Caro Salon. And what I can give to others is the love and passion I have for the industry. My love for my current students is to see them succeed, more than I ever have. That moment they see value in what they learned. When they realized they can do this on their own. And that I can bring to Cambodia to help in their journey of a new beginning.

So how can you help?
Well its non profit, so this is all volunteer. I am putting my job on hold as I travel to Cambodia for 6 weeks. Everything from flight, to room and board, to food is on me. And I know this will forever change my life. So Im asking if there is anything you have to offer it is more than appreciated. If I go over my goal, the rest will be donated to organization itself to keep it going for the next generation of hairstylist to give back.

Thank you for your time and patience of reading ;)
