A Christmas for Christine

Recently, my husband and I have been helping a local foster girl named Christine. Christine is a delightful kid, she is generous, kind and very respectful. We would like to give Christine something she has never had: a nice Christmas full of love.
The picture you see here shows Christine helping my husband pack up our care packages for the local homeless people. She was so excited to help with this project and asked to assist with the distributing. Even though she has nothing herself, she wants to give. Christine is truly a good soul.
This poor girl has a very sad home life with no love. She just turned 18, so her family no longer receives government assistance for her. Therefore, they want her to move out immediately, even though she has nowhere to go. They will not even buy her food any more. She often eats potato chips (which she buys herself) for dinner, alone in her bedroom. Recently, she has been enjoying a hot meal in our home every night.
These poor excuses for "parents" have never taught Christine any life skills. She does not have a driver's license. They told her to get a job, yet will not drive her anywhere. We paid for her to take her first driving test, and we also helped her get a full-time job and learn the bus schedule for the times we are unable to drive her to work. We are now helping her shop for an apartment near her new job. She is very responsible and eager to start a real life.
I will not be purchasing many frivolous items for Christine with these donations. I will get her a few gifts to make Christmas Day very special, but mostly I will be using this money to help her start a new life, away from these awful people. That is the best Christmas gift we can give her. We will also use the money for a much-needed Dentist appointment and well-woman's exam with an OBGYN.
OUR BIGGEST GOAL IS TO GET HER OUT OF THAT HOUSE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. She will need a large deposit being that she has no credit.
We helped Christine open a bank account, and let her use our address (her parents open her mail, and have taken money from her in the past) so her money will be safe. We have taught her how to budget her money, and she already has $50 in her savings account. She was so excited to show us! We have also taught her how to shop using coupons. She is a little sponge, she absorbs all advice and actually utilizes it. It is obvious she has never had a positive role model.
Christine wears shoes that are nearly two sizes too small, and she has only two outfits that fit her. She gained weight as a result of having to eat cheap junk every day, so her older clothes no longer fit. We would like to surprise her with a shopping trip for some new clothing, especially for her new job.

Christine recently told me she knows her parents do not love her. She said they respond with the word "Okay," when she tells them she loves them. I want Christine to feel real love. On Christmas Day, I will present her with these gifts and donations by writing each donor's first name inside a Christmas card, to show her how many people do indeed LOVE her. I hope it is a long list. I know finances are tight during the Holiday season, but please know that even $5.00, the price of a Starbucks, will mean so much to this young woman because it shows someone cares about her.
