Debt for Doc

Donation protected
We just got our son the most adorable puppy that will be his companion for medical reasons. We have been searching for months to find the perfect rescue that would fit his needs. Little did we know, our rescue would need rescuing of his own.

Less than 14 hours after bringing him home we found out he has parvo. Doc, the name our son gave his puppy because it's what everyone calls his Navy IDC daddy, has been admitted to the hospital and we are responsible for all the fees.

Please help us save Doc! He and my son must be meant for each other; both have spent much of their infancy in the hospital and in doctor's offices. However, active duty military insurance does not cover Doc's care.

We need help covering doc's hospital stay. Our 5 year old and 3 year old understand that Santa is having to help Doc out this year and he will do what he can. Please help!

Please understand that the goal amount will be changing every day that he is in the hospital and is dependent on the care he receives. So, please don't be surprised if it's not the same goal amount when you check back in another day.

***UPDATE*** We went to the VCA hospital today (12/14) and Doc is starting to act better but is still not keeping anything down. They are running a panel on him to make sure there are no other parasites or anything keeping him sick. We were approved for Care Credit to cover the costs of admission on 12/13 and 12/14, but tomorrow we will run into some problems. We are hopeful that he does not need another day's stay, but realistically we understand this is probably not the case. His cost of care so far has not exceeded the minimum estimate of $1240 per day, but with the new panels we know this may change if anything is found. Vet balance today: $1982.

12/15: Doc is doing ok. He only lost his cookies once last night but they found round worms. They cannot begin treatment for that until he can tolerate oral administration of medications, which he's not. Doc is still refusing food, but the new anti-emetic medication he is on is working well for him. We are hopeful for a turn around and we all just can't wait to see his wagging tail again. Vet balance today: $3022.

12/16: Doc is very weak today. His labs look good so it seems he's still trying, but as the vet said, he's still very sick. Doc will be getting an abdominal ultrasound today to make sure his intestines aren't collapsing since he's still adamantly refusing anything orally. Please pray the test isn't positive because it's an extremely expensive surgical procedure and as you can see, we are falling extremely short of our financial needs to keep going. He is getting IV nutrition which is helping but I'm terrified we will lose him if we can't keep up with his fight. He is still trying, you can see it, but I broke down in front of the kids today because I don't know if we can keep up. Vet balance today: $4598.

12/17: Dear Santa, All we want for Christmas is for Doc to get healthy and to come home. Love, The Washingtons
Vet balance: $5588

12/18: To our beloved Doc,
We tried so hard to make you better and to get you back home for Christmas. I'm glad the last person you saw was your daddy and to hear how much you are loved. He said it was ok for you to let go if you needed to, and you did. I'm happy to hear you weren't alone when you started to pass. We all know that you feel better now and hope you know that you have a permanent place in our hearts. I'm just so saddened that you didn't get a chance to really play with the boys or get to eventually meet the baby girl. You will forever have a place on our laps to cuddle and I hope you know how much you were loved. Rest in peace little one.

With all our hearts.
Chris, Leah, Logan, Scott, and the bun in the oven that kept kicking you

I will answer as soon as I can, but please don't email anything hateful or malicious. I'm 9-months pregnant and need to try to keep calm, well, as much as possible.
