A Christmas Miracle for Kelly

This page is set up for the beautiful family in this picture. For the sake of their privacy, we'll call them "The Smith Family." These dear friends and neighbors of mine are currently experiencing unfathomable times, and anything we can do for them can make a difference. Here is a little background story:

"Mr. Smith" is a genuine, honest man who, under any circumstances, will always stand strong for his family, his faith and his community. Not only is he a well-respected member of the community, but he is also a leader within the local law enforcement community. He risks his life for our safety by day, and cherishes his family by night.


"Mrs. Smith" makes the task of juggling two young kids, a household, making dinner and getting bubble gum out of carpet and tangled hair look like a piece of cake! And her best quality is, by far, being a fantastic mother.


That handsome young man on the right, we'll call "Johnny." Just like his daddy, you won't find Johnny without his toy gun strapped on his belt, fighting crime in the neighborhood :)


And that leads us to the precious little girl in the middle. "Kelly" is special for so many reasons, and currently needs our help. Kelly was born with a rare and very personal birth defect, that required several operations from birth to help make sure she could grow into a lovely young woman. She stayed strong and fought through, with the love and support of family, community and church members.


Around December 4th, Kelly came down with what seemed to be a little bug. She had a tummy ache and didn't feel well, but her loving parents knew just what to do. They made sure she was comfortable and provided extra hugs and kisses. This bug that she was fighting had been lingering throughout the week. On Monday, December 9th, things took a turn and Kelly was brought to the best hospital in town, where her team of doctors she has known since birth were ready to help. At first, doctors were thinking Kelly was fighting Meningitis and began running all the appropriate tests. But those tests were inconclusive. On Monday evening Mr. Smith said that Kelly had been doing a bit better, but they still could not figure out what exactly was wrong.


On Tuesday, December 10th, The Smith's Pastor of their Church came to visit them at the hospital, to pray for Kelly and offer the family his compassion and support. Tragically and unexpectedly, as their Pastor was walking to his car to leave the hospital from his visit, he suffered a major heart attack and died instantly.


And finally on December 11th, just before midnight, I received a message from Mr. Smith. He said that Kelly has a brain infection and is not doing well. He asked for my continued prayers. This is the last I have heard.


This family would take the shirt off their backs for anyone, and cook a warm meal for everyone. All of this sudden tragedy has all unraveled in less than four days, and I cannot imagine the grief they're facing.


Their son Johnny probably doesn't understand much, if any, of what is happening. All he knows is that Santa is coming soon, and his little sister Kelly is sick.


Their medical expenses will surely be tremendous, and their son surely is still expecting Santa to come this year. I am not asking for much, but even if one person could donate one dollar, it can make a difference.


Please have it in your heart to keep this family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season. And if you can spare an extra dollar, I can promise it will mean the world to them.
