Rebuild Hope After Hurricane Helene's Impact
Donation protected
I wanted to take a moment to reach out to family and friends that have been asking how they can help us.
It is not easy for me to ask for help or support as I see others struggling also, and I want to help them. My personality is such that I want to help others first. But I am starting to understand that it's ok for me to ask for help. The devastation here on our property and all around us is unlike anything I have ever experienced or witnessed. We are currently in a state of attempting to figure out how to rebuild from the devastation of the hurricane.
We live in the mountains, and we are surrounded by tributaries, creeks, rivers, and lakes.
We live on Cedar Creek Road in Lake Lure, NC, an area that was severely affected by Hurricane Helene.
We have massive flooding as a result of the two storms that hit us.
Our creek became a rapidly flowing river, bringing two RVs and many debris from properties upstream.
We have several huge trees down and 2 feet of sand/silt from the creek covering our property. Additionally, our driveway has been completely destroyed, leaving massive craters that will need to be filled.
One of our bridges has been completely demolished and sits dammed in our creek along with massive trees, trailers from upstream, and all kinds of debris that will need to be removed by heavy-duty equipment so that we don’t further affect people downstream with more debris on their property and also don’t stop the flow on the creek, causing more flooding for our whole area.
We haven’t had power or cell service for the past several days, and currently, we don’t have an estimation on when that will be restored. I am posting this from a spot that we found on the side of the road close to a 30-minute city nearby. We are very blessed to have water and food and the love from our neighbors
I am grateful beyond words for all the love, prayers, and support.
Thank you!
