Ivy League Project Fundraiser

Donation protected
Our names are Alfredo Calvo and Crystal Perez. We are currently sophomores at York International School in Thornton, Colorado, and we were selected to participate in this year's session of Ivy League Project. The Ivy League Project selects low income students to have the chance to tour around ten highly prestigious colleges in the east coast.
Coming from a low income area can do one of two things: put you at a disadvantage or inspire you. Having opportunities such as these allow us to compensate for resources our community may not have. Being first generation students from low income families, we have faced the challenges of not having the knowledge of further education and resources to aid our lack of familiarity.
In attempts to capture the attention of highly selective colleges, we must take advantage of every single opportunity we come across. This project will give us a significant edge in senior year when we are applying to the college of our dreams, as well as guide us through what admission counselors search for in order to prepare accordingly. Not only will this program help our applications, but it will improve our networking skills. Attending relatively small schools ensure that we know the people amongst us at a personal level, but we haven't been given many chances to interact with individuals or organizations to assist us in our pursuit of education.
In April 2014, we will be touring colleges such as Harvard, Brown, and Yale. In addition to the tours, we will benefit from participating in panels and interacting with the students who currently attend highly selective colleges. Admission counselors will be aiding the lack of knowledge we have towards the expectations prestigious colleges have.
However, the trip will cost us roughly $2,175 each. Though a bit costly, we feel we simply cannot miss this opportunity. To increase the funding we had available, we set up a fundraising event at a local TCBY for two hours after school in order to receive 20% of the profit. In the future, we plan to sell candy bars around our community and shovel snow off of sidewalks to gather further funds for our trip.
We really appreciate every donation. Thank you very much for your time.
