surgeries don't allow work

On July 9 I had emergency surgery as my retina and optical nerve had detacted from my right eye. It was necessary for me to remain in bed for more than two weeks. My recovery was going well and I was able to return to work -albeit with limited vision and not full time - on July 28.  On August 1 I contacted my doctor because my eyesight was diminishing rapidly. Apparently scar tissue was forming. I was back in surgery on August 2 and am out of work again. On August 3 my younger son was in an altercation during which he was stabbed and has subsequently lost his job.  My boss kindly paid me a full check through July 15 but obviously can't be expected to continue paying me.  Also my son needs some time for the stab wound in his chest to heal before he can work again.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
