A month after giving birth to baby Caleb, I was getting a mammogram on a suspicious lump. That one appointment propelled us to a multitude of appointments. I have been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to the liver and bones. Now we get to figure out what life is going to look like with 2 little ones and terminal cancer.
I've had several friends request that I set up a place for donations. They even threatened to do it for me if I wouldn't do it myself. :)
Right now, we don't know what financial needs will pop up. We know that we will be having multiple hospital visits. We will be traveling up to Northwestern in Chicago at least once, but maybe multiple trips or overnight visits. Due to the cancer being in my bones, we will need to make some changes at home. We'll need a new, ultra-comfortable computer chair. We need a new mattress and will likely have to get an adjustable bed to help me get out of bed. I'm sure there will be more needs.
We also would like to do some fun, memory making activities. Mark some things off of my bucket list. Shane and I would like to take an Alaska Cruise for our anniversary. We love Disney and would like to take another trip with the kids. (I don't think I will have the time/money to stay at all of the Disney resort hotels, like was originally on my bucket list. That would take far too long and way too much money, lol.) I've also had a longtime dream to visit Maine in the fall, partake in a lobster bake on the coast.
We thank God for all his provisions and blessings. We've already had so many people bless us with donations, food, and even breast milk. We are overwhelmed by the generosity and the love everyone has shown us. Thank you all! Every sentiment and gift has been a beacon of encouragement through this dark time.
