Help save a member of the family Kobey

Donation protected

Hello everyone my name is Kobey and im a 5 1/2 year old Black Lab. I have been living the life all dogs dream to live. My family spoils me and treats me better than I ever could have imagined. I also share the house with our cat "Rockey" and our newest addition "Victor", who is a Black Lab/ Hound mix and we all get along very well! My family sometimes calls me the gentle giant. I am still young and plan on growing old. Up until now, I have been perfectly healthy besides the fact I love to eat. So keeping me fit is just what my family does.

Unfortunately a week or so before Thanksgiving, I started limping on my left rear leg. I wasn't too happy about this because I could play with Victor or Rockey like I am used too! But enough of me talking lets here what my owner has to say about me and why we need your help.

Hi everyone my name is Josh Humphrey and Kobey is my dog but also my families dog. Recently Kobey started limping on his left rear leg and we soon decided to take him to our vet. After doing some tests including blood work, hip x-rays, and even a biopsy of a "mass" on Kobey's inner thigh. Our vet let us know that all the results came back normal except for the biopsy results. The results were aiming to Sarcoma although both our vet and specialist said it could be inflammatory, but the chances are VERY slim even though the biopsy results weren't 100% confirmed. What is a soft tissue sarcoma? Soft tissue sarcomas are a group of malignant cancers that arise from the skin and subcutaneous. But we wont know if its malignant or benign until its removed from his leg. However, due to the area that its in our vet Dr. Chas Benedict referred us to MASH ( Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital). I remember bringing Kobey back home and I told myself to stay strong, but as soon as I entered my house I broke down into tears. I knew this wasn't going to be an easy topic of discussion to explain to my parents... So now each day Kobey gets more attention than ever before because we just don't know how this is going to turn out. We are hoping for the best! If I had a way to make this money on my own I would be doing it instead of writing this advertisement, praying the community can help.

After taking Kobey to MASH for a consultation, we were overwhelmed by the amount of money its going to cost to get him corrected. The consultation included chest x-rays and another exam to make sure nothing has spread. Everything came back normal which is GOOD meaning its staying in one area! Taking care of our animals is what my family is all about. In our past, we had an 8 year old Lab mix who had blew out both of her knees on different occasions and we saw that they were both repaired. We have had a 14 year old Collie who was taken by cancer but we did everything in our power to keep him strong and live life to the end. We love all of our animals and Kobey is very special to us. I am sure we all know and dread the word cancer. Its nothing anyone should ever have to face but in this case its actually happening to our family dog.

To break things down... Kobey is going to need a CT scan of his leg so the doctor performing surgery can have plan of action. Once that is complete, Kobey will need to have some blood work done. Following that he will have to be taken for surgery to have this "mass" removed from his leg. Once the mass is removed, it will be sent out for a biopsy to determine what type of Sarcoma it is. This needs to be removed from his leg ASAP!

We are trying to raise $3,800.00 dollars and here is why....

CT scan: upwards of a $1,000.00
Blood work: $100.00
Surgery: $2,000 on up

**Plus medicines and anything else that Kobey may need, but the smaller items my family is not too worried about, its the BIG items that we are asking your help with.

Anything extra that we don't use we would like to donate to SMAWL (St. Mary's Animal Welfare League) They are a non profit organization and were the ones we got our first dog from when we moved to Maryland in 1996.

Being the animal lovers that we are, we are asking for your help in anyway possible. A little bit goes a long a way. Having this hang above our heads right before Christmas and the New Year is not exactly what we had in mind. So take a minute and ask your self... what would you do if it was your animal? I know ive donated money before for different causes helping the community. Its something everyone should do if they can. Believe me I know times are hard for everyone. My father is one of them because of everything going on with the economy and the Government furloughs.

Seeing our dog this way is just horrible....
