Hello there,
My name is Tony Canty, and I teach fourth graders with autism. I work at a school that serves kids with all kinds of disabilities, and I believe that the performing arts can be such a great source of inspiration and learning. Theatre helps in building a sense of cooperation, confidence, and connection, and it offers a platform through which to express emotion in a positive way.
At this time, my school doesn't have any enrichment programs in the performing arts, but with your support, we can have a program by the end of winter!
What will the money go towards?
A total of sixty classes with third, fourth, and fifth graders participating in one class per week for three months. The classes culminate in a school-wide performance, in which the children perform in front of all of their parents and supporters.
What's the program about?
The IDEAS program involves theatre instructors working with and inspiring students by teaching them about scene work, characters, plot, and setting. They guide the students in building scenes based on real-life situations, and the students work together to use their imaginations and skills to come up with constructive ways to handle such difficult issues as bullying and peer pressure. The kids don't have scripts, allowing them to explore their emotions and express themselves naturally.
With your donations, we will give our students at K368 an experience that they will never forget. Lets rewrite the script of these kids' lives, one pledge at a time. Thank you so very much for your support.
