Dakota is a 3 year old Pitbull-Doberman mix who is the most lovable dog you will ever meet. You would never know by her sweet personality that she has been to hell and back. By some grace of god, Dakota and our paths crossed when she was still a puppy and we saved her from any further physical abuse or starvation. When we first got her, she actually rationed her food in fear that she might not get any more. As if this innocent, beautiful animal hadn't been through enough, tragedy has struck again. On the night of December 6th, we were hit by a drunk driver.
I needed to run to the drug store that is about a mile down the road from me and my boyfriend's house. I was telling Dakota that I'd only be gone for a minute when she looked up at me with those big brown eyes, begging to come with me. Dakota goes on lots of car rides and loves them. It was a cool night so I knew it would be okay to leave her my car while I ran inside Walgreens.
It was on my way home when we were hit by a drunk driver in a Chevy Avalanche. I drive...drove a Mercury Cougar, which didn't put the odds in our favor. We hit almost head on. My car did brilliantly and saved our lives. The air bags both deployed and ended in, among other injuries, severely fracturing Dakota's front left thigh bone. She was rushed to the animal ER. Luckily I had been saving money for a cruise and had $1500 to pay the ER's bill. To think they would have put her down...
Anyway, Dakota is stable now and just lays around the house in cast, waiting for surgery to fix her leg. The problem is it'll cost around $3000. I just spend literally every penny I had to keep her alive that night. Luckily, both my boyfriend and I are hard workers and we'll get through this. It is just that Dakota needs surgery now and it's hard to pull $3000 out of thin air. Credit lines aren't possible, we tried. We're in our low 20s and don't have any credit established. Dakota can't not have this surgery. Please help us save her life. Every dollar that brings us closer to our goal is appreciated more than anyone will ever know. Any pet owner knows that they so much more than just four-legged friends, they are family members. I love Dakota more than anything in this world. Please help me save my furry baby.
