Helping hearts for Jenn & Kyle Farquar

This page is being created for one of the most giving women and her family that I know. For the past year I have watched on numerous Grande Prairie groups as Jenn Farquar has organized, and handed out to multiple families in need. She always has an encouraging word for those that are struggling and heart and mind to organize help for to those who need it. What many of you know and some of you don't know, is that all this time that she has been giving, encouraging and helping, her own family is going through it`s own very tough struggle.
In the fall of 2012 her husband Kyle was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and he was put on disability and very heavy medications. He became severely ill and unable to work or to be left alone. Forcing Jenn to work only at night when she has someone to come stay with Kyle and their two children, Daughter Mackenzie 12 and Son Xavier 2. Disability does not pay well, Jenn works doing industrial cleaning at night to cover the loss of income they have been faced with for over a year. They are just getting by and now on top of this Kyle`s medication is not working for his Leukemia. Their only option is an Alogenic Stem Cell Transplant. This procedure and subsequent treatments cannot be done in Grande Prairie. They are facing four trips to Calgary in the next four to six weeks for tests and bloodwork. They are responsible for all costs associated with this travel. At the beginning of February the real work begins for Kyle. He will have to start very heavy rounds of Chemotherapy in Calgary in the hospital. The reality of this is that Kyle will be alone during this very very painful process. They can not risk Jenn bringing germs in from the children. Kyle will then start radiation and work up to the transplant. This process is 4-6 weeks, and then another 2-3 months in a Cancer House with a care aide before they will all be able to be together. Kyle`s time at the hospital is covered by healthcare -HOWEVER - Kyle`s time for 3-4 months after care is is not covered. They will need to come up with another $1300 a month on top of their regular monthly housing and living costs to cover his time there. For over 100 days Kyle will live away and suffer this terminal treatment alone. Jenn will become essentially a single mother with the worries of her sick husband and the extra costs never far from her mind.
When Kyle can finally come home he will face weekly after care appointments in Edmonton or Calgary due to the fact that GP has no Oncologist on staff. Again all of these costs will be at their expense. That will be another stressful time with some tough decisions they will have to make when they get there.

Jenn, Kyle and kids thank you all for your love and concern. This decision was not an easy one for Jenn to let me set up and help her. However after some discussion about how much she has and is still giving and smiling and making us all laugh she finally agreed. She is much more comfortable being on the giving side of things. Please help me bless her and her family as she has blessed so many others in our community.
