Please Help Me Get Back On My Feet

For the past two years, I have been fighting a civil rights lawsuit against a California-based housing authority which I alleged wrongfully terminated my Section 8 housing benefits, leaving me homeless. The case recently settled and I received a new two-bedroom Section 8 Housing voucher for myself, my fiancé, and my two children, who have been living separately in public housing projects this whole time.  I will also receive monetary proceeds from the settlement which will be placed in a special needs trust allowing me to retain my existing benefits for basic necessities such as food, medical expenses, and diapers for my children. 

Over the years, I have been a self-employed handyman, but in 2017, I lost my tools and work equipment to a fire.  I plan to use the proceeds from my settlement to revive my career as a handyman, by purchasing a used pickup truck, new tools, and equipment.  I need to count every dollar, however, because the settlement proceeds will be just enough to cover these expenses.  After my case settled, I learned that setting up my special needs trust would cost $1,000, since a trustee will control how I spend the funds.

Long story short, I’ve been fortunate to receive a modest settlement, but I’m asking for your support to cover the fees that would otherwise eat into the settlement proceeds that are critical for reviving my career.  Your support will enable me to once again earn income as a handyman and ensure a better livelihood for my family, while creating more security and stability in our lives.
