Heart Surgery for Waffles

Hello from Sydney and Waffles! 

For any of Waffles' fans who don't know me personally, first of all I want to thank you for clicking on this link! Waffles is my 18 month old golden retriever. He has been in training to be my next service dog since he was 16 weeks old. He is the love of my life, along with his older sister Missy, but now we could use your help to keep him healthy.

Waffles has been diagnosed with a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) by a cardiologist which will need surgical correction. Unfortunately, since this is typically considered a congenital condition, his pet insurance will not cover the cost of his surgery, which is set at $4000. Waffles has received regular veterinary care his whole life and has seen multiple providers, he did not show any signs or symptoms of this condition until recently. The only way we caught this was because it was seen on a routine echocardiogram that was being completed as part of evaluating him for breeding purposes. We were very lucky to have found this before it was too late. He does not have the typical "washing machine" sounds associated with most PDAs, but I included the picture of the x-rays to show his enlarged heart and the documentation from the vet.



The good news is that with surgery, his prognosis is extremely good and he will be able to continue life as a healthy working dog after he recovers. He is currently scheduled to have this corrected on 11/11 at 11 AM.
