Small DREAMS for the less fortunate

Helping people realize a modest travel dream.....
For many years, I have raised money for various causes and people and have done so out of my own pocket. In the year 2013, I changed everything up and established my own foundation and hope at some point in the next year to become a non-profit organization to be able to give back to you in terms of a charitable deduction. Be patient...dealing with the government...takes time and involves "red tape". I began acquiring funds for 2014 about 2 months ago and I do this by contributing 10-15% of my own personal income. As you can imagine....as a Travel Consultant, it happens slowly. The purpose and goal of my foundation, Reuben's Rainbow is to fund the travel dream of an individual who is not able to fund their own modest dream for a variety of reason that I deem to be noteworthy, i.e. illness, medical expenses and a multitude of financial reasons. Because of my involvement in the travel industry, I am often privileged to excellent rates at various venues, i.e. resorts and cruises....this helps me to fund this at an exceptional cost with me accompanying the individual. The (2013) recipient was Nancie from Oregon. Nancie is 48 years old and was diagnosed with a terminal illness and was given 5 years, 7 years ago. Recently Nancie met me in Las Vegas and spent a wonderful few days in a lovely suite at the beautiful Las Vegas Hotel (formerly Las Vegas Hilton). After a tiring and fun filled several days, we arrived in West Palm Beach for a couple of days and migrated to Miami for the inaugural sailing on the MSC Divina. What a treat this was for Nancie. When coming back to Florida, the next couple of days were spent at the fabulous Palm Beach Colony Hotel. After a fun filled 10 days, Nancie's dream to travel was realized. She said she wanted to travel and left all the planning to me. Nancie has worked all of her life and often over the years had 2 jobs and raised 2 children. I am blessed to know such a fine woman. Today, Nancie receives a small disability check which is greatly consumed by prescription costs thus the reason that her trip was financed by Reuben's Rainbow (us).  I personally know my recipients and all is verified to be true. I have no administrative costs as I donate my own time effort and money. I hope you will help me and trust me to help others. Any amount you are able to give, can safely be done on this site. I hope you will do so. If you have realized some of your own travel dreams....please help someone else live their dream. The recipient is an individual only...not a family.

The Reuben's Rainbow gift is always a surprise to the individual....they are completely unaware of their little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and you will all help me keep my own memory alive.

January 19, 2013 - The Rest of the story.

I am now able to tell you the rest of the story.....Originally my organization was to be called "Live the Dream" and was tailored to an individual only. Not an entire family. Those of you who know me, know that I do not have any family. I have 2 parrots and they have been my family. Over the past years, my husband has worked overseas, most recently July, 2011 to August, 2013. So, my little family was myself, Reuben and Christopher. On November 12, 2013, I went to a meeting in Las Vegas where I was to meet up with Nancie. We returned to Florida on November 18, 2013. Upon arriving back in Florida, I went to my boarding facility that I have used for 8 years to pick up my parrots and take home while Nancie and I spent a couple of days before going on the cruise. The boarding facility where I took my parrots was at the home of my Veterinary Technician. When I picked up the parrots, I asked how they were. I was told that my Amazon Parrot was loud and noisy and she the technician and her husband gave both birds Haldol. Haldol is an anti-psychotic drug that is used for elderly out of control nursing home patients. She said to me...no worries, it wears off in 5 hours. Took my birds home and the next day, they seemed a little quieter than usual. I just kept an eye on them. The morning of the 20th, Nancie and I were to leave on the cruise. My baby bird, Reuben was almost comatose....he could not stay awake. I rushed him to the Vet and the Vet was out of the office and I was not told. He was treated with more drugs by yet the same technician that I boarded with. Long story short, within 36 hours of picking them up and within 20 minutes of arriving at the vets office, my baby parrot (7 years old) was dead. He died because of the absence of compassion and conviction. After the chain of events, I decided that my Foundation would be called "REUBEN'S RAINBOW".

In 2014

We  assisted a soldier from Afghanistan's family with their lodging needs to visit their son on his return - and also funded with lodging needs for the soldier.

A young boy died in my community and the funeral home held his remains 'hostage' as the family had little money.  I gave money towards the bill to send the young man on his final journey "HOME."

Just last week I assisted a newly wed couple name Christina and Henry have some fun on a honeymoon trip as they had very little money to make it happen on their own.  They are hard working and both in school with 2 school aged children.

In the upcoming year, I hope that you will modestly help me to help other realize very small and modest travel dreams.  A little bit of money goes a very long way.

Thank you and may you have many blessings for giving from the heart.
