I would like to take a moment to tell you about an amazing opportunity for me to contribute to my family, my community, and my future.
First, I want to share a little something about me. My name is De'ja Monet Sawyer, and I am Junior in the Gifted and Honor Student Program at Warren Easton Charter High School. My academic success includes my membership in the National Honor Society and participating in the Taylor/NOMA Scholar Program. I am also a proud member of the Nazarene Baptist Church, where I actively serve in the Youth Ministry and perform in the choir and the liturgical dance ministry! Upon graduating, I aspire to attend Dillard University, Nichol State University or University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I plan to study Pediatric Nursing.
My accomplishments and my faithfulness have lead me to the next step of my academic journey. I have been chosen as a People to People Student Ambassador and will be traveling next summer for 19 days of learning to Italy, France, Austria & Switzerland. This program provides a unique opportunity for educational growth, which can help me develop beyond the classroom and I will earn academic credit and perform service-learning hours. My involvement as a Student Ambassador will provide me with a competitive edge on college and scholarship applications.
An experience such as this, will require an investment. Raising funds for such a noble cause cannot be possible without the generous support and sponsorship of donors in my family and my community. The costs associated with participation is $7,330 and funds will be due by May 2014. We ask that all commitments are pledged by March, 2014, so that I can plan accordingly! Your generous support will directly go towards payment of the academic fees and funding for the People to People Program.

Student Ambassador Programs visit schools, experience homestays, absorb world culture through firsthand exploration, meet with government experts, and enjoy unique insider access to significant people and places. Student Ambassadors prepare for this experience well in advance and are asked to keep a daily journal and participate fully in all activities for academic credit. Students build their leadership skills while working as a team with other students and making friends in a well-supervised environment of cultural exploration.
