Update: (11•19)

Update on Tia’s current situation - Tia finished her last round of chemo on Friday, November 9th. As we all know, she has been out of work since July of this year. She has ran out of FMLA and is now having to pay COBRA for her insurance. Because she can not have surgery until her body is healed from the chemo, she will continue to be out of work for the remainder of November and then December. Her family appreciates all of the continued support that they have already received. Unfortunately, bills are continuing to build up. The chemo side effects have caused her skin irritations and reactions that have caused her oncologists to refer her to a dermatologist. This adds another doctor, more visits, and more bills. She will also have her final reconstruction surgery in December and she will not be able to return to work until mid January. If you can, please donate. If you can’t, please share. Someone that may be able to help may see this. She is almost finished with this fight, but just needs one more push of help.

Update: as most everyone knows Tia had her double mastectomy on July 9th. The plan was to next have reconstructive surgery after and then start chemo after that if needed. After her CT scan, her doctor was very happy with the results and thought she may not even have to do chemo. Unfortunately her Oncotype DX results came back with a high score meaning there was a greater risk of recurrence. Due to the high numbers they wanted to change plans and start chemo immediately instead of doing the reconstructive surgery first. Tia had her first round of chemo (docetaxel and cyclophosphamide) on 09•06. She will have 4 total- one every 3 weeks due to the strength of the chemo. As you know chemo causes a lot of terrible side effects including muscle pain, nausea and unfortunately hair loss. After she finishes she will still do the reconstructive surgery but no idea when that will be. This means that she will be out of work longer than expected. It’s always hard asking for help but sometimes it’s just needed when you have a family to support. She has already been out of work for 2 months and will be for several more months. Her FMLA ran out this week from work so she will no longer be getting that. Also due to her leave of absence from work, she will no longer be able to have her health insurance through work and will have to start paying it in full. If you can, please donate. If not, please share and keep Tia and her family in your prayers. These next few months will be really hard on them, especially for her twins that will have to watch her go through this awful chemo.

It is with much difficulty that we share with you that Franklin County High School and Middle Tennessee State University alumni and baseketball stand out Tia Stovall was recently diagnosed with breast cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma). While we are optimistic, this is the start of a long journey for Tia and her family. Tia is married to Santana Seay and is the mother to 11 year old twins, TaTianna and Tyrese. Following several weeks of testing, the treatment part of this journey is scheduled to begin with surgery on July 9th. Following surgery, Tia will be faced with at least one more surgery as well chemotherapy and hormone therapy. Tia has already had to begin missing work for appointments and as you can imagine, the emotional and financial strain have already started.
