Emergency Move for Queer Couple
Donation protected
Sage and James are a queer couple that I’ve become good friends with over the course of the past year. They had to suffer through much hardship being homeless for several months while James also had to deal with the negative health effects of their untreated colon cancer. Thankfully due both to the generosity of people like myself and others, as well as Sage’s tireless effort working at their job, Sage and James were able to move into a new living space in the second week of September this year.
However, in the short time they have been living there they have faced habitual lying and harassment from their landlord. Their landlord has repeatedly come into their home without reason or notice, in complete disregard of triggering James’ PTSD, something he was previously informed about. Despite the lease and tenants' rights in Minnesota specifically stating a reasonable notice must be given, their landlord does not respect their rights and privacy. He continues to deflect answering many direct questions via text and becomes argumentative when they follow up with him. There is also a water and sewage leak that is seeping under up from the tiles of their bathroom. Recently, he has also begun storing his personal belongings in their garage without their consent.
Due to Sage and James stating these violations to their landlord, he has retaliated against them and does not have any desire to renew their lease at the end of April. While Sage and James eventually plan to take their landlord to court for his actions, given James’ condition their first priority has been finding an alternate long-term living situation where he can comfortably recover from his necessary future surgery. Sage and James have thankfully found another home that would allow them to move in on the 1st of December with no deposit down. This news has unfortunately coincided with Sage’s hours being severely cut from full time hours to under half without proper warning. This is due to the fact that the corporate sector of Sage’s job has made the decision to cut workers’ hours in an attempt to increase profits. While Sage is currently looking for a new job to compensate for this loss of income, this makes their prospective move more difficult.
It is for these reasons that I am starting this fundraiser in order to help my friends raise the funds that they need in order to move away from this unfortunate living situation. The donations of this fundraiser will be going towards Sage and James’s expenses for transporting their belongings, as well as the need to make some repairs to their van (brake lines rusted, sway bar link is broken). It is urgent that James and Sage get these funds these upcoming weeks to secure this housing.
They also accept donations on CashApp $age1312 & Venmo @sage-1312 This is preferred since they would receive the donations immediately.
Thank you to all who share or donate.
