Hello,
My name is Tatyana Gudge and I am a recent graduate from Queen’s University and future law student. I know many believe that the recent events that have occurred, and repeated themselves throughout history, would not happen in a country which sees itself as progressive and as accepting as ours claims to be. This notion has allowed many Canadians to turn a blind eye to the racial inequalities and the disproportionate impact which Black people endure due to subtle and overt racism in Canada. I am organizing a 5K walk, run or cycle event in order for us to move beyond social media re-shares, hashtags and black out screens.
Participating in this event will demonstrate your support, pledge and willingness to join a movement based on fairness, equality and justice for the Black community. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go towards the Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) in Canada as well as The Black Health Alliance (BHA). We have to create bridges and links between and within communities to remove impediments to social and legal reforms. The BLAC was established in 2017 and delivers legal aid services to low and no income Black Ontarians. The proceeds will go to this organization as they have and continue to make an impact by tackling the barriers in access to justice in Canada. The other half of proceeds will go to The Black Health Alliance which was established in 2000. This organization has been striving to obtain reforms in the health care system and to improve the overall well-being for Black people from all walks of life and communities. Once the fundraiser closes all participants will receive an email showing how much was raised and confirmation of donation proceeds. A better country can only be created through unity and cooperation by and for all its members, individually and collectively.
